If Jonathan was stealing that much when oil price was $70 and the economy kept growing, there was still some money left to execute projects, why is Buhari that is not stealing anything still complaning about oil price?

This is one of our major problem. What do you think will be the result when "educated illiterate" become public commentator?

Obasanja did run the economy aground before Yaradua took over, Yaradua didn't run the economy aground before Jonathan took over, Na Jonathan run the eonomy before Buhari took over.

Stewpid people, keep on blaming Jonathan, when you know you have an illiterate and a tribal bigot as president

Obasanjo didn't run the economy "aground", everybody knows that.

Why borrow at all when you are coming from a period of affluence?

I will tell you why: the overwhelming majority of the revenues raised under GEJ was stolen. A conservative estimate would be N1 trillion.

Please kindly tell us just one country in the world that does not borrow even if it has a rich revenue base.

Thanks

Countries borrow but in this case it was not because of any sophisticated economic modelling, it was a simple case of being broke and borrowing to meet your immediate financial obligations. For a government that was enjoying close to $100 per barrel for a long time, it is sad beyond belief.

No tangible infrastructure development too, only militants and political sycophants living large at the masses expense.

When logical arguments fail you, attack the person you oppose. Tactic of the poor debater.

I wonder if there is a religion that condones looting the treasury and driving a country to recession in times of plenty. Maybe you and GEJ practice such a religion. #Shior

why will any sane mind debate with your kind your kind that believed that everything was wrong with the last administration yet couldnt find a single thing wrong with the present one....your kind lack logic cos to you everything is religion....just do yourself a favour and scan through all you have been typing from GEJ era to the present.....

anyone that cant find a single good thing in the last administration and sees everything as good in this administration is not worthy of anyone's debate and time and you my friend fall in that category......so bittered and angry

Stop masturbating on what terminology you failed to understand.

She used the term borrowed because the past budget has ran its course before the new 2015 budget was signed on 10th May, 2015.

It is illegal and unconstitutional to start expending funds without the budget.

If I may ask, why was May, 2015 Salary/Wages not borrowed? Why April and not May? Simple answer, the budget was signed on 10th May, 2015 making the expenditures and release of budgeted funds legal.

Simple understanding of internal bureaucracy in government helps.

it's not necessary to lie to support your points, non passage of the budget does not mean money can't be spent. Iweala said it and Obj said same early 2016 when the budget wasn't signed. The only reason they had to borrow to pay salary was because there was no money left after Dasuki and the military chiefs had their fill.

She borrowed in April and had abundance in May? Can you tell us the lender Bank and at what interest?

Why do we hear of government shutdown in Democracies even in the Unite States of America?

Recurrent expenditures are major part of the budget hence require NASS Approval and President's consent to implement including Salaries and Allowances.

It's okay, I have ended my lectures - bye

The public discourse is dominated by the poor state of the economy with many opponents of the present government of President Muhammadu Buhari seemingly relishing what they perceive as his failure to run the economy which they claim is the source of our current recession.

However, a short look at our immediate past shows that former President Goodluck Jonathan actually presided over running the Nigerian economy aground during his tenure which largely favourable global economic conditions.

Read this report from last year :

So, the 2015 budget which was done by GEJ 's administration was financed from borrowing, what happened to all the revenues raised in the previous 3-4 years under him?

Do people think we will just stroll out of GEJ's mess like that? The man did not only fail economically but he also empowered militants that are now sabotaging the economy, he also failed to decisively tackle Boko Haram until few months before leaving.

It is only an hypocrite that will blame the present government for our problems, it is doing a lot to stabilize a bad situation.

See as you dey fall your hand, under Obama the US national debt almost doubled. Yes GEJ borrowed but what was the fate of the ordinary Nigerian on the street compare to now?
