Just watched the youtube videos and found out that preserving tomatoes or any other fruit like it doesn't take too much. The funny thing is even the large scale mechanical dehydrated tomato factories in the USA make use of solar drying just like the small scale drying guy. This is what the ministry of Agriculture should be doing, get farmers into cluster and build dehydrating points so as to preserve the tomatoes. Its a shame that 50-60% of tomato produced in this country is lost post harvest because of lack of preservation.

Here are links to two videos showing the process

In a short time that is how our markets will be flooded with our home grown foods. Ones there is sincerity of purpose and determination our PMB would bring Nigeria back to life.

Good development. People should look into dehydrating tomatoes and make powder out of them when they are in surplus!

Wow, you have sense

Nigerians would prefer to whine than be innovative. Earlier in the year when tomatoes was very cheap, l did posts suggesting dehydrating tomatoes without knowing that Tuta Absoluta was waiting ahead of us. A lot of farm produce such as ripe banana, ripe mango, beetroot, carrot etc can be dehydrated.

The pictures are packs of dehydrated ripe mangoes and bananas. I get to buy it off the shelf at stores in Nairobi. It reduces post harvest losses!
