we should be agricultural nation, not hunting certificates and degress......

their is no jobs for all the professions that many of us are taking debts to learn....

the federal-goverment can not hire all of us,and the western nations neither..

we have to look that 90% of all of us are in farming and agricultural products...

dont forget, new generations of nigerians are been born daily....we are going to fail like this....

its either you are already rich,or you will stay poor even if you manage to reach western nations, you would still be poor and struggling to survive....

i know nobody, that went to europe poor and came back rich, not with honest work.......

In principle we must get back to producing the bulk of what we consume and aim to become net exporters i.e exporting more than we import.
To this end, The Holy Bible says For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
-2 Thessalonians 3 vs 10

Lots of people are just getting paid without contributing and think the FG is suppose to provide their salary even when their effort doesn't fetch the FG nada.

You are right.

The idea of hunting for useless certificates is the reason why we are not growing.
I have carefully read and observed the economic evolution of China and I plan to write a book on it in due time.
But I will give out a few hints here.

These people called the Chinese found out how useless Certificates would have made their economy if everyone went for it. They found out because those who acquired the certificates couldn't find jobs. (Same thing that is happening in Nigeria)

They found out that the ego chasing certificate people didn't want to provide the basic needs of their ever growing population. For that reason, they started pulling half brilliant people from schools and sponsoring them to different countries to learn vocational works such as sewing, baking, mechanized farming etc.
Only highly brilliant people were encouraged to continue with Medicines, technology and law studies.

Two decades later, they started recalling those they sent out. They even went to the extent of punishing or even killing those who refused to return.
Those that returned were sponsored to open small factories to start production on whatever they learnt.

They started employing their people and one decade later, each factory gave birth to many more. The spread began there from there.
This programme was replicated in almost every sector ; Agriculture, clothes, shoes, building materials, blacksmithing, woods/carpentry and many more.
Today, with the help of constant electricity, there are millions of small factories all over the place.

That was how the revolution began.

But today, in my Country, every half Illiterate wants to become a banker, an oil worker, a doctor, a lawyer etc.
They want to sit in one office with air condition and western styled suits, just to gloat over others that they went to one University or the other.
They forgot that doctors, lawyers and bankers eat everyday, wear cloths everyday, etc. Who provide all these things?

It's not yet late because the journey ahead is still forever. If we start today, we can become a China in 30 years time.

So, if you know your results in schools are not encouraging, If you know you are not that brilliant, stop forcing yourself to become a doctor, you can only harm people.

Brace up yourself, search for what you can do, go as low as possible to learn it, apply whatever unique talent you have inside you to make it different, and before you know it, you are successful. The word here is successful, not rich.
Like Igbo traders do, bring in people to learn from you, settle them when they are done, they will bring in more people to teach. In 30 years, half of Nigerians will have jobs. Agriculture will be booming, shoes, clothing, even technology will spread.
Without trying to be tribal here, if other Tribes in Nigeria can adopt the Igbo style of bringing apprentice and training them, Nigeria will become mega productive in a few years.

Let us not focus on the crappie WAEC results we post here every year about how Anambra or Imo is better than Kogi or Osun.
The truth is that 98% of those with that results will end up as workers in one company or bank or anything else that contributes only tax money to the economy. Tax money is not what we need, we need economic revolution that can only be obtained through small factories, agriculture etc.

Finally, I want us to know that someday in the future, electricity would become stable in Nigeria like it is in many countries, and we need to be ready by then.
The rogues holding us down will all die someday and things will change.
... .
If you are a ghost worker, getting paid for what you don't work for, always remember you are a thief.

And this is what we have been reduced to.
You sit at home and ask God to punish people.
Punish people for what?
How do you grow if God keeps punishing your neighborhood
How did Black man end up like this?

The agriculture for now is driven towards self sufficiency, food security.

More than $11billion will be kept at home if we get that right.

Those who have been enjoying importation of those food items would not be happy, but they better go and start setting up farms from all they made in the past

1million likes. Germany is what it is today because every job, every skill, every vocation you learn is important. Less of their citizens end up in universities and the others who don't are highly skilled with modern up to date technology.

No to subsistence farming. Yes to commercial /mechanicalized farning. More trade with Sahel countries exploiting natural advantage in grain production.

I agree alot of people get useless degrees to stroke ego or fulfill certain societal expectations. Nigerian culture makes you feel less than if you didn't decide to go to 4 year college. There are other avenues to success besides college. Learn skilled trades, work sales job, join millitary are also good options.

Long term country needs to move towards industrialization. It's the path towards turning Nigeria into regional economic hegemony.

OP, I do not think the issue is as simple as you put it.

its not just about 'everybody' going to the farm (quantity) its about the quality & diversity of the agricultural process & produce.

if I am correct in my analysis of your opinion, what Nigeria would end up having is a population of over 100m subsistence farmers producing the same types of farm produce/products since there would be little room to grow, diversify & innovate.

besides, agriculture, on the scale Nigeria needs to be competitive locally & internationally, should be done by those who have deep interest, flair & drive to make a success of the agric business.

for instance, the US with a population of over 300m has less than 3m (barely 1%) core but diverse farmers & has one of the biggest agric industries in the world.

China with a population of over 1b has over 300m farmers ( about 30% of the pop.) also has a large agric industry.

yet, the USA has a better sustainable process than China which is always one or two crop cycles away from having major issues in the agric sector.

what we need in Nigeria is big time farmers who specialise in a variety of produce. 1m of them will feed west Africa well rather than 100m small farmers producing same/similar produce.

even wondered why the Nigerian diet is not varied? we eat the same thing (admittedly in different ways) & that's because contrary to the often stated rhetoric about Nigerians importing ALL our meals, we import varieties that are not readily available because we are tired of eating the same things produced here.

Beans, yam, plantain, garri, maize/corn, tomatoes, pepper, onions, poultry & animal products & the really 'local' rice are the staple foods in Nigeria, but Nigerians want variety & unless the government makes it more attractive for people to invest in big time agric business, we are wasting time.

another way to push things is for every local government to identify a specific produce & become 'experts' in it...

Farming though good may not serve our purpose if we don't do it right. The right thing about it is to go mechanise.
