Onitsha will crumble finally when Asaba shoprite goes live y December. Thank God they have stop work at Nnewi's shoprite which is located at the worst place such thing should be.

I wonder who did the business consultation for Onitsha and Nnewi's shoprite. They are ill advised and so will later fold up.
You have been watching a lot of wwe (wrestling) "when asaba shoprite goes live" is it smack down? Lol

The venture isn't totally a waste.
The mall is state govt owned, and the franchise given to shoprite and other outlets. If they can do biz profitably there, the state govt can convert it to another use.
The place is large enough for a tech-hub and other 21st century enterprise. I would have sited a mini silicon valley there.

.... And you think Silicon Valley is some sort of thing that can be sited anyhow? Check out Silicon Valley and its replicas and know that it goes beyond "citing", you must have a strong educational sector and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Silicon Valley not a Computer Village.

Shoprite failure in Onitsha only proves that there is low population of middleclass in the city. Maybe almist everyone is trying to make ends meet. I personally find it very difficult entering a filthy open market and it is so for most upper middle class in Port Harcourt. Mile one, Oil Mill, Creek Road etc are well patronised but yet there are hindreds of thousands left that have barely been to the open markets in their life time.

none of these markets you mentioned in your comment can stand with ordinary ogboefere market let alone relief market, mgbukar obosi, new tyre market, electomart, eletrical market, bridge head, nkpor main market, ose okwor odu, building material, stock fish market, new parts nkpor, onitsha main market, ochanja market, abada dealers market, ahia coke etc.

my brother forget that thing, aside ikeokwu market no other market in port harcourt can stand shoulder to shouldet with onitsha markets.
imagine oil mill that opens only on tuesdays, as if na one kind village eke market, lmoa.

I know port harcourt bro.

See flattinos trying hard to defend the issue at hand. I have always said it. The only thing most flattinos know how to do is to brag and do wuruwuru business. They make small change and make the loudest noise.

How can they be able to afford things at shop rite when they are used to buying fake goods due to poverty. They even eat fake snacks. Na dem go out garden egg for inside egg role. Na person wey don chop belleful dey go shoprite Na. The only thing they go to shoprite to do is to take pictures with the fake clothes, dress up like childish juvenile and buy 2 for 50 naira biscuit, then upload pictures on NL and Facebook with captions " choplite" things...

Setting up a Shoprite in Onitsha,is like trying to sell water to the people of Bayelsa State(Bayelsa is covered by water),or trying to out drink an Urhobo man in a drinking competition or even trying to play an Ibo man Wayo.

It is never going to work.

Everything inside the Shoprite,Is manufactured locally behind the Shop rite, but only cheaper.
It's not true Big lies did the OP consult shoprite to hear from their own angle, shit journalism.
Shoprite in Onitsha not going to work.

Lol

Maybe u really don't know omits ha too well. That shoprite is surrounded by many markets that sell @ almost same price or even the same price as shoprite does, market plenty for osha, so how do u expect me to waste my time and fuel to the mall when I can easily get what I want @ my door step?

Majority of people living in Osha are traders, they go to market on daily basis, so they can easily get what they need inside the same market instead of wasting extra money and time just to get it at the mall. It makes no sense.

Besides, nothing concerns an average osha man with a tushed life, all they know is money nothing else. For osha, N1 na serious and valuable profit in business.

Hahaha!
Mehn! the hating is real. I went to pick a 100 by 50 shop, only to be told its filled up. Haha. Be dulling.
The mall is selling real bad. Orient Petroleum is doing good business. Head down to aguleri, flat head!
Nawa oo.
What happened to investigative journalism?
I don die.
The same Shoprite that closes off people on weekends to control crowd? Nawa oo.

If i had seen this bull.poo around 3pm. I would have taken pictures of people almost fighting cos of que just to buy bread.
Onitsha shoprite shuts their doors and stop people from going in almost every sunday cos of over crowd.
If this writer had said ONITSHA MALL idles away, i wouldhave said he is right.
Cos right now, apart from few businesses like Kilimanjaro, Blueribbon, SLOT, Priceless etc. Most of the shops are yet to be taken.
Bros, take a walk to shoprite anyday especially weekend, u will have a different mindset. This writeup is trashy bull.poo & filled with mis information.

don't mind the useless OP. I don't know if it joblessness that gives youths of Nairaland the time to go about gossiping and reporting false news. I don't know what one stands to gain in thrashing people's efforts. Tufiakwa.

That's because they are still evolving!! They don't know how to organize and administer themselves!!!!! If Biafra ever came to fruition, South Sudan's case would look like child's play compared to what would become of Biafra!!!!

gringringringringrin I really was expecting this report. I laugh those that took shops at Shoprite. It was a heavy mis calculation on their part.
Onitsha is surrounded with different busy markets that specialise on all kinds of goods. Majorie domestic goods.

The beauty of these markets is the fact that their locations are at strategic sites which are very close to different places.
Someone living at Fegge has Head Bridge, Ochanja and Main Market as the closest market run to for his needs.
Another living in Odoakpu has Ochanja or main markets for his needs.
Another living at Woliwo has Ochanja and Relief market for his needs.
Someone living at Awada can trek to Relief market or Head Bridge or even Electronics for his home gadgets.

Shoprite saw these markets still wanted to compete with these markets when they are not selling at a cheaper rate?? . I laugh at their stupidity.
Guy you be area o

how did you come up with that analysis? What proof do you have to back it up? concerning the issue we are analysing, there are many markets Anambra state, any where you find yourself there must be a market closeby, and people there calculate a lot when it comes to money, when they check their transport frm house to shoprite, its much better to buy from markets closeby than going to shoprite because of the #10 or #20, they deduct. The problem shoprite is having is the excessive markets in onitsha

I first liked your statement before I felt I should reply you.
Let me give you facts about Onitsha shoppers as per shoprite:
1. 80% of the crowd in shoprite are there to buy bread
2. 90% of youths are there for pics and maybe a big bottle of coke and fanta are bought along side.
3. An average Onitsha men prefer to go drink beer in kiosks than going to shoprite.
4. There is a growing trends around town that shoprite things are expensive so people don't really patronize the place.

Please OP,have you been to lekki shoprite? What about Jabi's or even Enugu? Owerri is also close by.

We must tell ourselves the truth, Onitsha shoprite will soon be a monumental failure especially when Asaba goes live cos most of the people you see there are from Asaba,Awka and Nnewi especially on weekends.
