What Are The Differences Between Roman Catholics And Protestants? by OLAADEGBU(m): 4:53pm On Aug 20, 2016
What are the differences between Catholics and Protestants? Why is there so much conflict between Protestants and Roman Catholics?

We know that there are several important differences between Roman Catholics and Protestants. While there have been many attempts in recent years to find common ground between the two groups, the fact is that the differences remain, and they are just as important today as they were at the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. So what are the differences between them?

The catholic church is the mother of all churches and it carried out the greatest jihad history has ever known. The Dark ages recorded this as many christians where extinguished all on the basis of religious dogmas that were created by the church. The catholic church concealed the Bible from the general public and only allowed what was favourable to her to be public knowledge to the people.Martin Luther is the definition of Protestantism. After he discovered the truth in the Bible which was initially hidden by the church he translated it into German and stood by the "Bible and the Bible alone".The dogmatic belief of Mary been a mediatrix, purgatory,The infallibility of the pope,The imposition of Sunday as the day of worship instead of Saturday were amongst a few of what he strongly protested against. This marked the beginning of the protestant churches namely anglica ,methodist,Presbyterian,Calvinist, baptist, all these new generation churches dont have an inkling of what it means to be a protestant etc...Truth be said, all these churches have all ran back blindly to the mother church currently.Defying Biblical precepts of what God has pronounced in his word. But a few that are regarded as religious fundamentalist have stood on the Bible and the Bible alone...If you are a christian ask your self and the leaders of your church how Biblically based is your church?

There are several important differences between Catholics and Protestants. While there have been many attempts in recent years to find common ground between the two groups, the fact is that the differences remain, and they are just as important today as they were at the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. The following is brief summary of some of the more important differences:

One of the first major differences between Catholicism and Protestantism is the issue of the sufficiency and authority of Scripture. Protestants believe that the Bible alone is the source of God’s special revelation to mankind and teaches us all that is necessary for our salvation from sin. Protestants view the Bible as the standard by which all Christian behavior must be measured. This belief is commonly referred to as “sola scriptura” and is one of the “five solas” (sola is Latin for “alone”) that came out of the Protestant Reformation as summaries of some of the differences between Catholics and Protestants.

While there are many verses in the Bible that establish its authority and its sufficiency for all matters of faith and practice, one of the clearest is 2 Timothy 3:16, where we see that “all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” Catholics reject the doctrine of sola scriptura and do not believe that the Bible alone is sufficient. They believe that both the Bible and sacred Roman Catholic tradition are equally binding upon the Christian. Many Roman Catholics doctrines, such as purgatory, praying to the saints, worship or veneration of Mary, etc., have little or no basis in Scripture but are based solely on Roman Catholic traditions. Essentially, the Roman Catholic Church’s denial of sola scriptura and its insistence that both the Bible and tradition are equal in authority undermine the sufficiency, authority, and completeness of the Bible. The view of Scripture is at the root of many, if not all, of the differences between Catholics and Protestants.

the Bible is not a synonym for scriptures!!! and the highlighted bible passage does not even support sola bible but rather disproves it.
All books in the bible are scriptures but not all scriptures' are in the bible. The Bible did not even exist in the first 300 years of Christianity so the concept of sola bible has no basis

On the contrary, 2Tim 3:16 is the last biblical verse to be used in support of sola scriptura. If anyone attempts to use that as a proof, it then means that any book can suffice as scripture once unanimously agreed upon.

Otherwise how can you justify a book written in 95AD as scripture being referred to and thereby approved so to say by a book written in 67AD almost 28 years before. Or how does a 67AD write up approve a Canon which took place almost 300 years later.

Paul did not know of Revelation when he wrote his letter to Timothy neither was Paul in any way considering his letter to timothy a scripture.
How then did these books become scripture being referred to by Paul?

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

All scriptures are God breathed and you can only find God breathed scriptures in the Bible. smiley

Thank you for this. Even the bible stated that if all things that happened during the life of Jesus were to be recorded, all the library in the world would not contain it.

It's funny how Christians believe that what the bible contains were the only things that happened or inspired by the holy spirit during that time.

Scriptures there means the God breathed words that were written. The canon was completed after the book of Revelation.

the only difference is that Catholic folks believe Mary is the mother of God , while the protestants on the other hand believes Jesus is God yet deny Mary as God mother .

ki lo n so ( what is he saying) ? Both catholic and Protestant say that God was manifest in the flesh , and for God to be in the flesh , must be born by a woman which automatically make Mary the mother of God , catholic admit . (since what was manifest in flesh is God ) but Protestants on the other side Say Jesus is God even in flesh . but yet clueless to went ahead and deny Mary as God mother . when the idea itself dictate that if Jesus = God , his mother = Mother of God .

I didnt raise any point about " before he " . so this further show your clueless ness! . my response to you was based on when he manifest in flesh . if it was God that was manifest in flesh, this idea automatically render Mary as the mother of God

I think what he meant to ask was, do you believe Jesus was God before he was manifest in the flesh (that is before he was born here) ? If you say yes, then the question

"Was Mary his mother while he was in heaven before he was manifest in the flesh?

You know, Jesus made us to understand his pre-existence before coming to earth.

So, in Christ's pre-life, was Mary his mother?

And will Mary be his mother when he comes back?

No. Mary didn't give birth to God.

Thats why he asked you if Mary was the mother of God while he was in heaven before he came down to earth. And now that both of them are in heaven, is Mary his mother there now?

Did Jesus ever worship his mother? 1

so who did Mary give birth to ?

Jesus. the son of God.

When the spirit of God went into Mary and emerged as flesh, a name was given to him, JESUS. He took flesh and became as one of Us. flesh and bones.

That flesh couldn't do anything until the time appointed by Heaven. And, when that time came, he was baptised and afterwards, the HOLY SPIRIT CAME UP HIM.
To begin his ministry, he fasted. he needed the help of Angels when he was weak in the flesh. he ate, got tired and slept.

He was killed.

You are ignoring a very vital point here.

You also said the spirit of God enter into Mary and emerge as flesh , so the holyspirit which is the spirit of God was actually Jesus grin . this girl will kill herself with confusion o . I wont start issue with this one , since that's not the issue on ground.

Alaye, was he called Jesus when he was in heaven ? so your point is nonsensical.

Nobody bears the name Jesus until Mary Gave birth to him . so am talking about Jesus here, the man given birth to by Mary , is he not God ?
