Interstate highways, even in the USA and other advanced nations, rarely have drainages because it doesn't make sense to construct it across miles when water can easily flow into nearby bushes or rivers. That Calabar-Itu road really needed this intervention, however small it is. That road is a mess and an eyesore. Only the experience can describe the abysmal state of the road. The issue with the road cannot be solved by expensive & useless drainages but by a total overhaul of the road. That road needs to be dualised, well tarred and marked. I know the economy is bad but Buhari needs that road to score the attention of the people of the Akwacross region and the South South. If he can do this, together with the rail project & seaport, then he'll be always remembered as the hero of the Niger Delta and not those fedora hat wearing & kai-kai sipping selfish politicians who claim to be for our good.

The Ag. MD /CEO NDDC MRS Ibim Semenitari inspected the Calabar/ITU road that is under emergency rehabilitation by the commission.

In less than 2 weeks the commission told her engineers to move from the headquarters to site the and due to the passion of the MD the contractors are working round the clock to deliver this road..

The people of Akwa Ibom are happy that the road is passable now.Drivers are happy they could ply this same road that was cut off..

Kudos Ma'am.Determined to make that difference

Good luck knows his people very well, he knows that they are very unappreciative, road construction could not be completed in the Niger delta region during his tenure because people in the area want matching ground money even for roads that are supposed to give long term benefits for them.

Drainage for long roads are usually compensated by the gradient and sloppiness of the edges and undulating nature of the road itself.

This is usually taken into consideration during the architectural drawing and civil engineering of the site.

God bless the president for looking into this road. I can recall spending a whole day on this road just from calabar to uyo that should be a 2 hour journey at most. God bless the wailers too for this wailing in particular is having result. lols.... . Before you quote me, am not a wailer nor a zombie but I can't do without both parties. lols.

my colleague had to sleep at a park in uyo to continue his journey to PH the next day (a journey he left calabar around 9am and they got to uyo (a supposed 45mins drive) around 10pm.


Thank God I didn't travel that day, I for just quench for road, I later spent 6hrs from PH to calabar, better than....

First of all, that road was started by obasanjo. Secondly your hero Jonathan didn't finish the road but instead abandoned it.

Kaduna-Kano express road has been in existence way before GEJ would ever think of becoming president. He met Kano-Maiduguri road project ongoing and he left without completing it. Work is still on progress there.

and what will happen afterwards when the bushes turn into residential and commercial areas(lagos ibadan expressway)

I dont know that area but most inter-state roads that go through non-inhabitated places dont have drainages as it makes no sense really. The water can just flow into the Bush/forest around the road and percolation happens

Major intertate roads like this don't need a drainage, the road is designed with a gradient slope for the water to run off towards the forests. Unless there is a swamp on either sides of the road the road should not flood and even at that a drainage would never be able to hold a swamp at high tide back.

We have road constructions here in Ireland year round. And it rains heavily even during summer. Try another one.

At bolded you have a point just that most times we don't know which one is constructive or not. You determine which is which yourself and I don't think that's ideal. If it is done by a party member it's constructive to you but if done by an opposition then it's destructive to you.
