You must be perfect just as your heavenly father is perfect - Matthew 5:48.
Does God think about sex? I doubt. We are humans, we live in the flesh and do suffer imperfections of the flesh. So God understands as Christ himself lived in the flesh.
Does that stop us from seeking perfection? No. So what do we do? We do not use out human fraility to justify our imperfection, rather we everyday confess our sinfulness and look up to God to give us strength to live as Christ commanded us to - to be pure, spotless and blameless before God. Where sin abounds, grace abounds even more, Apostle Paul wrote. Let's take the advantage of this grace.
A food for thought.

Istimna
Scholars of Sunni Islam generally do not approve of masturbation, except in extenuating circumstances. They encourage Muslims to fast to reduce sexual desire if they cannot marry, [4] as this was the recommendation of the Prophet.
Yet if one's desire is so overwhelming one might perform masturbation but in that case it will be like eating the flesh of a pig to survive from major hunger or starvation when no other food is available. [5]

SO, Pls explain, if the married is thinking of his wife and doing it, how do u think about sex {as a single} without an object in mind i.e ur partner}

Apparently you will agree that human philosophy and ideology have been used to explain when masturbation becomes a sin.

They say its OK to masturbate as a married person thinking about your spouse yet it becomes a sin for a single person becUze he or she might be thinking about sex with an imaginary person but I ask again....are sexual thoughts sin?

Paul said we should guide our hearts with all diligence nevertheless it is not a sin if we fantasize about sex but it becomes a sin if we visually fantacize about sex when looking at the opposite sex lustfully which makes watching porn a sin and watching porn to masturbate also comes under fornication cos you are lusting after the people in the film.

I hardly comment on sensitive but necessary topics like this, however I have a clear understanding of your disposition to the "topic in question" especially how many Christians tend to use their human doctrinated principles to explain away "Masturbation" without convincing explanations to those who are willing to learn. The hypocritical angle in your debates is well noted and to a large extent very true.

However, I am of the firm belief that "Masturbation is a sin" because of the "silent guilt" that comes with the post actions. You may hink you are deriving pleasures with yourself but deep down its something strange coming from within which is, "I just made love to myself" shocked now go through the Bible from Genesis to Revelations you will agree with me that although "Masturbation" may not have occurred in the Bible as a word but think about you "making love to yourself" to derive pleasure and imagine how God (who created sex between husband and wife and even institutionalized marriage for procreation, love, unity and spiritual bond) will view MASTURBATION! Remember this God frowns seriously against same-sex inter course. God speed bro.

You have just done the same...you just used human ideology to explain it.

Go to page 2 and 3 to see the list of sexual immorality as quoted from the bible.

The self guilt is psychological because overtime pastors have made people believe its a sin so you have subconsciously imbibed the heresy so each time one does it there tend to be a subliminal guilt.

I keep saying that many believers have denounced their salvation simply because they masturbate even after accepting Christ as lord and saviour.

This heretic man made doctrine must stop.

Toks2008,

i read ur write up tho. You made a lot of points. I mean, why create the urge in us when we should not satisfy it in any way.. till at least ure ready for marriage.

but we can't question God.

We can never question God neither are we to add or remove from his words.

Till I was 21 or thereabout I seldom think sex but after that age I began to feel something else a out my sexuality so what is my point?

It was never in Gods desire that the world economy will make full grown men and women to still remain single..please let's be real..how can you expect a full grown man or woman to be without sexual urge.

If the economy has made it easy for people to marry at 18 or 20 I guess there will be lesser noise about masturbation.

Please can u explain what you mean by "thinking about intimacy" and how dat is different from lustful thinking which the Bible condemns, thank you.

It is so clear.

Visually induced lustful thoughts is a sin because the bible says so.."For whosoever shall LOOK at a woman or man as the case may be and fantacise about sex with such" and this usually comes with pornography.

You can be on your own and imagine sex without any VISUAL aide. This is not out of place as sexual beings .

Toks2008 I have biblical verses that speak against masturbation
1.Romans ch 12 vs 1-I appeal to you therefore brothers by the mercies of God that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God which is you spiritual worship
2.Romans ch 13 vs 13-let us walk properly as in the day time ,not in orgies and drunkeness,NOT in sexual immorality and sensuality and not in quarelling and jealousy
3. 1st Corinthians ch 10vs 13-NO temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man but God is faithful, he'll not let you be tempted beyond your ability but with the temptation he will also provide a way of escape that YOU maybe able to endure it
4.2nd Peter 2.19- they promise them freedom but they themselves are a slave of corruption for whatever overcomes a person ,to that he's a slave of
5.

Go to page 1 to see the definition and list of sexually immoral acts from the bible.

All you quoted up there has nothing to do with masturbation.

When you fornicate and it involves another seeing you does that make it sinless? oh I guess now you don't want a third person to see you.

Common sense.

Good bless the hands of the ones who have not Aids, gonorhea, and other STD's. God bless the ones who are not out patronizing prostitutes and monopolizing every opportunity to encounter the opposite gender while others are left out and alone at home.
Its most likely a monopolizing womanizer, STD ridden, prostitute patronizing, visceral impulsed dog who is making issues with masturbation.
Like the pastor who was commenting one month how a criminal deserved what he got, and the same pastor convicted of child molestation in another month.
Unfounded people who go astray of themsleves and cannot keep their hands to themsleves, those are the ones to watch out for in this life.
God bless the hands of those who keep their hands to themsleves rather than all over other peoples business, property and person.

May God grant unto us sound understanding! Amen! I want to believe that if we had understanding about some things we wouldn't have to debate them before we desist. Masturbation is not just the physical thing you think you do by toying with your parts, it acually has a very deep spiritual angle. When you masturbate you are actually having intercourse with spirits (some people call them spirit spouses), I will just call them spirit partners. Now you may be tempted to say, what is the big deal in having sex with spirits? For those of you who have heard about spirit spouses, you'd know that when a person has been espoused to a spirit partner, the spirit partner prevents such a person from making significant progress in life- because it sees that person as it's partner it could prevent one from getting a human partner(husband/wife), if one is already married it could prevent one from child bearing, if one already has children it could bring about confusion in the family to cause separation, etc. In short what spirit partners do is, they cause delay in important areas of ones life. For people that masturbate, try to examine your lives honestly , are there not areas where you are really experiencing significant delays? The only way you can be free is to stop having intercourse with spirits by way of masturbation. With fervent prayer and by starving these spirits of sex you will start making progress in life, because these spirits will no more have power over you and your destiny. Give this a deep thought, please. Shalom!

the bible says in hebrews 12:1 that we should lay aside every weight and sin which easily beset us.looking at this verse very closely the term WEIGHT here means talkativeness, masturbation, coveteousness, hypocricy and the likes. this things re nt sin but they can weaken our spirituality.

This is the type of comments I love to see.

Many people conclude that I am promoting masturbation but that is so wrong..instead I'm been frank and non hypocritical about it.

Just as I wrote earlier, it could be tagged a bad habit if that line is crossed and you see yourself doing it excessively..there should be a level of self control because just as quoted above, a sinless act if done excessively can be destructive to us.Talking is not bad but talkativeness is bad, eating is not bad but gluttony is, sleeping is not a sin but sleep too much and your life can be a mess so also the case of easing off sexual drive, if you indulge in excessive masturbation it will definitely drain you physically.

Calling it a sin is what I have issues with.

I hear when doctors require semen for artificial insemination they ask the man to masturbate.

If you look at sperm as a human fluid which it is anyway. It may just be as simple as releasing fluids that trigger hormonal reactions.

For example when a child doesn't suck breast as much as the breast produces, mother can extract the milk out of her body without the child necessarily sucking it out.

The fact that a knife can be used to kill doesn't make it bad.

I understand when God specifically instructs a person to desist from the act that one should adhere out of obedience cos it's just like a child being stopped from playing video games because of tendencies.

I stop my first son from playing video games outright because he doesn't even know when to stop but my daughter and second son treat video games like another toys so I hardly stop them.

Now there is a main issue here.

That u dont masturbate doesn't make you more righteous before God because the concept of righteousness is not what you do or don't do.It is a gift from God.

So I will conclude with this if you are truly a child of God.He doesn't leave us without a guide. The Holy Spirit instructs us on matters like this through our conscience so follow his guidance.

But if you're not Born Again you won't go to hell not because you masturbate. But you will go to hell because you reject God gift of righteousness through his son.Jesus Christ.

And if you as a born again he has instructed you not too strive against maturbation with every blood in your body for there is a reward.

The destruction comes to that one who has not confessed Jesus as Lord with or without maturbation.

If you want to give your heart to Christ.

Just say these words after me.

Lord Jesus I believe you came to the world to die for my sins, and on the third day to were raised up for my justification.

I confess you as the Lord of my life from this day on.

Thank God I am a child of God now. I have the life of God in my Spirit now.

Amen

You have a miracle of salvation to anyone who can mean those words.

God bless you. I will like to read your Testimonies.

When I traveled to South Africa and experience their cold weather I had a rethink about smoking.

Some weathers are crazily cold and I just can't blame them from trying to keep warm by smoking.

Nevertheless nicotine and alcohol are vividly harmful even in small quantity and if the bible says we should not destroy our body which is his temple then why take substances that will destroy it?

In the case of alcohol the bible made it clear that Drunkenness is a sin meaning getting intoxicated is a sin but many people don't know their limits.

Ogbeni sit your ass down and get this straight.

I am a holy spirit filled, heaven bound believer in Christ and I have led many people to Christ not by preaching heresy but the truth from the bible so sit your ass down and learn right now.

Our body is the temple of God so smoking and "drunkenness" is a sin cos they destroy your body.

Nicotine and alcohol are substances that damage your organs.

Self servicing is a different ball game but the mistake you keep making is mixing up addiction with the subject matter.

Is eating food a sin? hell no but gluttony is a sin and its even in the bible.Any act whether good or bad if done in excess can be detrimental to us so stop mixing things up.

People like you make it difficult for people to make heaven by enslaving yourself in man made philosophy'.People like you go about condemning trouser wearing, weaveons and so on making people to see salvation as bondage.

Please read this thread of mine to have your inner mind open.

https://www.nairaland.com/2579060/8-false-teachings-churches-biblical

I have been a believer since 1987 and I know my stands.

Watching porn is fornication, self servicing while watching porn is fornication but when you are so filled with sexual passion and you are not married you are free to ease off with your imagination if you can but if you have the grace to control yourself good for you.

But if your heart condemns you if you do it then stop it..PERIOD

What you look at and your thoughts(Mth 5:28) thereafter is what provokes the impulse for masturbation. Hear this "Put on the Lord Jesus and and make not provision for the flesh to fulfill the LUST thereof" Romams 13:14.

Brotherly advise:
Stop propagating and defending these heresies on this forum because so many impressionable minds might be reading. Ask yourself if this your message, though very convenient, was inspired by the Spirit of God or the flesh. Masturbation can be conquered with more Godly thoughts. Most people were there before.

Finally, remember this:
But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in and [a]acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin [that is, who entices him or hinders him in right conduct or thought], it would be better (more expedient and profitable or advantageous) for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk in the depth of the sea.

I have seen many threads on nairaland concerning self servicing and each time i read these threads i just shake my head in disbelief and i just marvel at the level of hypocrisy many people bring into the subject matter but today i want to present my candid take on self servicing using the very words of GOD as guide.

1.Is self servicing a sin?
: I have hoped that one day, someone will really quote a bible passage that condemns self servicing but so far what we have seen are human philosophies and personal conviction about the matter.I don't know what the Quran says about it but The truth is that the Bible is totally silent about this matter. Many scholars have sited the story of onan(Genesis 38) who spilled his fluid on the ground but a deep understanding of that story shows that GOD punished him for disobedience rather than the act.

Until we find a good scripture to point to self servicing as a sin i will urge people to stop using human ideology to deceive people about the subject matter."Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ."Colossians 2:8

2.When does self servicing becomes a sin
:I always asked; when you masturbate how do you do it?what goes through your mind? I really don’t think a single man or woman will be thinking about a football game or a tractor when self servicing but probably about sex and i don't understand why it becomes a sin for a human who GOD created with sexual urge to think about sex.

But when you watch porn or indulge in pornographic induced self servicing then you have actually committed fornication and i will back this up with the scriptures..."But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart"Matthew 5:28
This means when you self service while "looking" at pornographic materials,it is only natural to lust after the men or women in the film or magazines and that makes it outright Adultery/fornication making it 100% sin and in-fact looking at the opposite sex lustfully even without masturbating is a sin.

3.When does self servicing becomes sinless?
:Now understand this fact,Sexual urge is natural, healthy and God created it in us. You can not pray and fast about not having a sexual urge because its as natural as wanting to defecate or urinate.

GOD never intended for a full grown man or woman to be single but today, many factors are responsible for many unmarried adults which brings on them the pressure of sexual urge. If you are sexually active and you have the self control to stay without fornicating, watching pornography or self servicing i say GOD bless you but if you have a very strong libido i will advice you find a way to ease off without fornicating or watching pornography. As i wrote, it is perfectly normal to have sexual urge and it makes sense to ease off rather than burn with passion.

Conclusively,i would say self servicing should be stopped by those who see it as a sin regardless and just like every other habit that can become very addictive, people who indulge in it should know the limits.

However, the first step to stopping self servicing is to get married and if you still find yourself indulging in it with your wife or husband around then it becomes a matter of interest for you to address if it affects your sexual relationship with your wife.

"But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion"1 Corinthians 7:9

Even when we know that masturbation may not be a sure way of avoiding fornication, many people have successfully wade off fornication with the act but the simple fact is that as long as you are a sexually healthy man or woman, you are left with three options...To self service,to fornicate or to burn with passion.

So I ask anyone reading this to sincerely tell us the option he or she would settle for

Pls stop deceiving yourself, one cannot just masturbate without thinking immorally and it is this immoral thoughts that pushes one to masturbate. That's why as a Christian, there's need for you to be sanctified. Masturbation is not just a sin but a terrible one.

When u 'self-service' to get pleasure, do u imagine doing it with the opposite sex? What comes to your mind while doing it? There's no possible way u can do that without lusting after an opposite sex.. It matters cos the Bible says, who ever lusts after a woman in his heart has already committed sin with her.. Period!
