LIRS is a Haven of corrupt government officials in suit and tie.
Ambode brought in a thief and he is just doing what his predecessors did.
But that punishment is too lean.

Is this the best way to fight corruption?

What is special in what the governor has done. Removing someone from office for 4.2b naira fraud and not prosecuting him. If it were 10k phone pickpockets at Oshodi they will be handcuffed, chained and their pictures in the papers for stealing. But if the thief steals billions he will be protected only for him to become a governor tomorrow. This was the same rumour we heard during fasholas time concerning Ambode only for him to emerge govornor now. We, the populace, need to insist on accountability, apprehension and application of the law whosoever is caught. There cannot be 2 sets of law in the land - one for the poor and one for the rich. Since the time of AC to APC till now i have not heard of any commissioner or Agency Director prosecuted for corruption in Lagos. Are they telling us they were saints ? Not even one ! Untill i see a high profile office holder jailed in lagos for fraud, i will continue to see Lagos governments as corrupt. The only people that have fought corruption in their own ways in Nigeria are Buhari(in the 80s), Obasanjo(Tafa Balogun, Afolabi etc) , NOI(for conceptualizing TSA which Buhari has now adopted as standard for his government). Let Lagos Government allow the law to take its course and enough of paddy-paddy government!!!

This is a welcome development from Gov Ambode. The excesses of Mr. Olufolarin Ogunsanwo is long overdue to be checked.Since his appointment, the revenue generated had drastically dropped from what obtained during Fowler's tenure.I pray the substantive chairman would be able to restore the glory of the Agency and also improve staff welfare which Ogunsanwo neglected.

It seems APC govt has a lot of apprentice thieves. This one they are being caught on daily basis, what is happening? Tot they were expert in chopping and cleaning mouth. Maybe they man brought 1/3 of what was agreed.

You forgot to remember that PDP would have kept the same thief. PDP would have giving him more serious position. People like you need to wise up seriously.

After 11 months in office as Chairman, Lagos Board of Internal Revenue and Chief Executive, Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr. Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, has been sacked from office.  An internal memo communicating Ogunsanwo's departure from the revenue-collection agency dressed up his exit "retirement." Dated 26 August and signed by J. Aina, Board Secretary, the memo told staff that Ogunsanwo was proceeding on retirement from 25 August and had handed over to Mrs.  Akintola Bolaji,  Director, Tax Audit.

The memo, however, was not offering the staff information that they did not have. It has become clear to them since early July that Ogunsanwo, who boasted on appointment that he would double the state's internally generated revenue, was not going to be in the seat for much longer.  Sources in the LIRS said Ogunsanwo could not account for about N4. 2 billion was belonging to the agency.

This was said to have earned him a query from Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who was not impressed with Ogunsanwo's response. He was told to proceed on compulsory leave pending the conclusion of investigations into the sun unaccounted for.

During the investigation,  Ogunsanwo, disclosed sources, refunded the sum of N1.2 billion. His decision to cooperate with the investigators, explained sources, was a major reason the government spared him the embarrassment of being exposed.

Ogunsanwo succeeded Mr. Tunde Fowler, who was appointed Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue  Service  (FIRS). Shortly after resuming office, he took an axe to the structure inherited from his predecessor, sacking many top staff hired by Fowler.

This is a reaction of a good leader who has a vision and good mission to accomplish. Honestly if Jonathan could have curbed the cabals who stole from him this way, he would have been overwhelmingly supported for the 2nd term and he would have something to show in proportion to the wealth Nigeria accumulate during his tenure. GOD bless Ambode, God bless Buhari, God bless Nigeria
