Supporters of the introduction of sex education in schools mark its undeniable advantages. They say that the awareness of adolescents about the contraceptive methods, such as condoms and hormonal preparations, significantly reduce the number of early pregnancies and many sexually transmitted diseases

The opponents of the idea of teaching sex education in schools suggest that there are some downsides.

For example, they point out that such school programs cause unreasonably early interest in matters of sex. They also point to some of the immoral aspects of education, naming the promotion of non-traditional sexual orientation and pre-marital sex among them.

What's your take on this?

I think there should be age restriction if its gonna be taught, you can't be tell a kid of 14 about condoms, what for?

From SS1 then that's better.

It has its own merits and demerits.

MERITS
It will educate the young nigerian child and prepare him/her for the next stage.

some african parents shy away from it, so teaching the Child at school will enable them differentiate between myths and legends.


DEMERITS

at that formative stage, most children are curios nd as you know curiosity kills the cat.

I support the teaching of the subject cos it enlightens students on the prevention of some of these killer diseases & unwanted pregnancy.


Moreso, it helps them to be aware of what goes on in their body during puberty & all.

How old are SS1 kids? Most of them are not even up to 14.

I support the teaching of sex education not only in schools but also at home.you may see those children as kids but they have know and seen things.I knew what sex is at age 8 but nobody told me what wet dream is until I experienced it.( you can imagine that)

I suggest that they should be taught right from primary school all about sex( anybody wey wan bad go bad)

I think with the way things are going ,sex education should be taught in schools to alert the children especially females on the dangers of premarital sex and early pregnancy

Sex education should be thought in schools. Mostly on the disadvantages of teenage pregnancy, puberty and stds rather than how to have safe-sex

Yes it should be taught starting from JSS 1.
I mean if porn is everywhere online, on social media and most of these kids that have access to surf online comes across those pornographical oriented photoes which can easily challenge their mental faculty into wanting to think about sex.
I think sex education should be impose with immediate effect.

When i was in ss3 my class was given a project on "contraceptives" by my biology teacher.

We all did it both boys and girls and that project gave me an epiphany of a whole lot on sex and contraceptives.

I will say "yes" but strickly for ss2 or 3 students.
