IGP, Digs, Oshiomole, Others In Marathon Meeting To ‘influence’ Edo Election by aljazirahnews: 11:45am On Sep 22, 2016
Ahead of the September 28 gubernatorial election in Edo State, the Inspector
General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, alongside his Deputies Inspector
General of Police (DIGs) and Governor Adams Oshiomole of the state, reportedly held a
marathon meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, at the weekend, to
strategize on how to influence the election outcome in favor of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Others, who were said to have taken part in the strategic meeting, included
the top brass and bigwigs within the APC from the National and state levels, respectively.

It was exclusively learnt that, the impromptu meeting which primarily
centered on political strategies and how the election would be influenced tacitly
with police support in favour of the APC candidate, Godwin Obaseki, was reportedly
held behind closed door, at IGP Idris’ office at the Force Headquarters
around 5:pop on the said day.

An informed top APC source confided in Aljazirahnews that
despite the high power delegates of APC and presence of President Muhammadu
Buhari at the just concluded mega rally of the party in the state capital,
the party might find it so difficult to get sympathy votes during
the forthcoming election, following the series of unfounded allegations
leveled against some notable indigenes of the state.

Investigations further revealed that the effects of insults rained on Edo sons and
daughters, especially elders during and even after the APC rally in Edo,
has been mounting pressure on the governor and might jeopardize his party’s chances come
September 28, hence, his resolution to seek police assistance during the
coming election in the state.

The APC source further alleged that it would have been an
easy task for the party during the election, but with the insults rained on
elders and leaders from the state, coupled with the fact that the current governor wanted to
make Obaseki his puppet 'to cover up his atrocity in the last eight years,
the electorates were putting heads together to dislodge APC from Government
House.'

According to another the reliable source, “if we are to conduct election tomorrow,
people will not vote for APC, because the assault and insult were too much
on our elders in the name of politics. How will he be insulting, calling
our elders names because of election. Some have occupied that office before
him, so with the situation on ground now, APC may lose coming election in
Edo State."

Aljazirahnews could not independently verify the allegations as at press times.
Repeated calls put through to the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Don Awunah,
a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) on Tuesday did not connect.

Equally the APC reaction could not be sought at press time.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had rescheduled
the Edo state governorship election to September 28 citing security concerns from the Police and other
security outfits

The Department of State Security and Police Force Headquarters had also in a joint statement
demanded the polls be postponed.

Police and DSS said intelligence reports have shown that terrorists had planned to attack
vulnerable populations.

While the PDP had criticized the move as suspicious, the APC had commended it.

There's bound to be violence if Obaseki is imposed on us.

INEC is compromising ballot paper to rig in favour of APC.

INEC is making the area of PDP in ballot paper slippery and not absorb ink, thus making a vote for PDP void.

Edo people must watch out for this ploy.

the reason why this election was postpone is now coming out clearer
