http://www.engineeringbritain.com/space/archives/254-Nigeria-completes-milestone-in-space.html

Nigeria's space program has passed another milestone as both the state of the art NigeriaSat-2 and the Nigerian-built NigeriaSat-X (NX) spacecraft passed their Flight Readiness Reviews.

The completion of this review signifies that the two spacecraft are now ready for launch. At the same time, the Launch Services Agreement was signed that will see the two spacecraft launched onboard a Dnepr rocket in Q4 2010.

Meanwhile, the 26 Nigerian trainees, some of who have spent 3 years at SSTL, have now returned to Nigeria ready to begin operations of their two spacecraft once they launch next year.

Revolution will come to space with Nigerians aboard. Bribery, looting, 419, epileptic power supply etc which were alien to the space will now be introduced.

Space is a priority.
It can be used for all sorts of invaluable stuff for development eg. weather forcasting, seasonal weather/vegetation tracking, mineral / water prospecting, population movements / census etc.

They haven't shown that they can manage things on earth, is it space objects that they will now manage? Making express ways a bit more than two lanes, thats a priority.

I find eveybody's response amusing and appropriate but God help those who are in govt, running this programme. A nation where everythng is seen as national cake. I am so certain they will keep wobbling and fumbling till others get it right (not them). Was anyone on Nairaland in the know of how those trainees selected for the space programme, who had spent 3yrs outside of the country were "s"elected?

I hope we do not also lose this craft in space.
Re: Nigeria Completes Milestone In Space by vislabraye(m): 2:22pm On Oct 13, 2009
The Space programme should be a great step in the right direction. It's going to go a long way in assisting Information Technology and telecommunication which will cause a chain reaction, BUT (there's always a but in anithing Nigeria), will it go well as planned? How many people have embezzled the funds? Are we sure some Nigerians will not sabotage the programme for his own selfish reason?, I can't rejoice yet. Let us see the end.

O.M.G! those UGLY politicians are at it again, this is another opportunity for lots of Ghana Must Go Wire Transfers to start
going around, O yes funds will start flying around right about now, do you guys know the cost of launching a space craft?
if those politicians can inflate the cost and loot the profit then with that money they can build their own Nigeria,
why not a poverty alleviation programme? these politicians are just like fraudsters devising one means or another to loot public
funds, beneficial my foot, shey na man wey neva drink garri today na im youwan tell the benefit of space program ?
these politicians are wack.

In as much as I welcomed the development of space programs in Nigeria, am a bit skeptical about the implementations when it comes down to managements. lipsrsealed    It is meant to go well with info. tech but as it is said b4, things do go awry in our 9ja case and I hope this will be different in a positive way.

Re: Nigeria Completes Milestone In Space by novaman: 3:45pm On Oct 13, 2009
It is a shame that even some people think that Space technology is irrelevant. We may have problem is some areas but that is not to say we do not need space technlogy. I could remember in recent past that some people said we do not need GSM; but today it is a different story; even the expansion of the Badagry Expressway is been questioned by some people who said there is no need for expansion.

One of the two satelite is for communication while the other is for observation; so ask yourself the simple question "do we need affordable communication"

It is our lack of understanding of what our priority that is making say unnecessary things about certain project. I do not care about the cost of the project so long it affect us positively. If the government decide today that they want to build us new houses I have no problem but the problem will be when they destroy one and replace with nothing.

For those who say the previous broke down; there are several thousands of junk satellite in Orbit yet we have just one which means other advance countries like the US have missing satellite so why the cry about our own.

It's great to see that Nigeria is involved in space exploration. African countries need to take an active role or risk being left out and having to depend on others.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, angry
please please please, i challenge anyone who thinks this is a step in the right direction to a debate and i would convince you that you are no better than the sleazy politician who brought this up in the first place,

Abeg, is there stable power in this country? unless that satellite is going to provide power, then it us utmost bullocks,
R our schools and hospitals equipped? Is it not only in Nigeria that you hear teachers on strike, Let us get our priorities straight o, do not let this people think this is a good step because it is not, embarassed
ok, what happened to the first satellite? Nepa took light abi? the money being spent on things like this can be used to better our nation, what happened to the roads? When i ever think about travelling by road, my first thought is to buy 5 new tires n take 2 of my old ones just incase, my second thought is to get an armed escort cry cry cry cry cry

Look people, let us not kid ourselves, A government that cannot provide basic social amenities such as portable water, electricity, health care, education and good roads is a failed government and the state who that government represents is a failed state,

We are all as useless as our leaders, yes i am saying it, you and me, we are as useless as they are because we do not hold them accountable, in 49 years of existence, we have not never sent any strong message to our leaders that they are useless and we want them out,

Food for thought, Leadership is a reflection of people in the society, should you blame the leaders for the failure of the state or should you blame the people??

think before you reply cos i am dead sure i am right on this one,

Bless lipsrsealed
