'IGBOMOKU' - AN ANCIENT COMMUNITY THAT
UNIFORM PERSONNEL MUST NOT ENTER

---------------------------------------------------------------

If you are planning a trip to Ijebuland , it might be wise to investigate interesting and unusual cultural taboos, especially for the destination you are going to.

To your own advantage, not understanding community's taboo can sometimes result in you unknowingly insulting someone, upsetting other people or worse, getting in trouble for being considered offensive.

Ijebuland, among other tribes in Nigeria is uniquely distinguished by its close-knit societies, rich in culture and tradition. In every community, the sacrileges and taboos abound and they are vary in nature.

Ijebu was a Yoruba kingdom in pre-colonial Nigeria. It formed around the fifteenth century. The kingdom was one of the most developed in the region with a complex and highly organized government, which they still maintain till date.

The Ijebu Kingdom is made up of several towns. These towns include Ijebu-Remo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu Imota, Ikorodu, Epe, Ijebu Waterside, Iwopin, Ijebu-Imushin, Ijebu-Ife, Isonyin, Ososa, Odogbolu and Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu Oru, Ijebu Awa, Ijebu Omu..

Among these towns is Ijebu-Ife in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State. There is a small community located within Ijebu Ife Township called ‘IGBOMOKU’.

‘IGBOMOKU’ is indeed a small community but for those who don't know, it is a dangerous clan for the uniform personnels.

Since the inception of the town, no uniform personnel be it Police, Navy or Army dares to enter because it is a taboo! It means any FORCE Personnel who dares to enter the boundary of the community will perish there.

This is a fact. If you doubt my story, take a trip to Ijebu -Ife to inquire about this. It's remained the same since the history of the community.

History of this town has been scanty because it was ritually decreed, in earlier times of its founding, that the history of the town must not be told.

All efforts to torchlight the history were declined. But several references were made to buttress the potency of the taboo. Quite number of men in Uniform who ignorantly attempted it were recorded dead.

The clarity of the taboo is mainly the UNIFORM. Any Force personnel is free to enter the community in as much he/she is not in uniform.

The enemy of the deity of the community is UNIFORM.

An appeal hereby goes to all and sundry to be informed that, Culture and Tradition, inspite of the Civilisation still abound in Ijebuland.
