Till date, I haven't heard any convincing argument as to why we should be celebrating independence in this country (for obvious reasons). More often than not, I wish Azikiwe, Bello, Awolowo and co were a little patient over Nigeria's independence from Britain. I don't know what you think, but I believe Nigeria wasn't due for independence in 1960 because we've never had visionary leadership in this country ever since. Maybe, just maybe, if these founding fathers had been a little patient, Nigeria would've been way ahead of other African countries especially when you read about South Africa. After 56 years of being in Nigeria state together, we are yet to sort out tribalism, religious intolerance, brazen bribery and corruption, nepotism, favouritism, summary execution, terribly poor infrastructure, the list is just endless. While it's a good thing we are still together as a people, I strongly believe Nigerians have nothing worthy of celebration.
