Today is world teachers day...

The education standard has hit zero point today in Nigeria because 1. teachers are not paid and two, because of special centers. These special centers is a matter for another day.

Most private schools are worse off, they pay change as salaries while the government teachers are fairly well paid but often owed months of salaries.

Many people just resorted to teaching because no better options, they grudgingly accept the job instead of sitting at home, as a result, their best is not gotten.

What best do you want to get from a Bsc holder or an NCE holder when you pay him/her 15k to 20k to teach 2 or 3 subjects. In fact, in primary schools, they pay as little as 10k to NCE holders, teaching all subjects. Some fairly standard primary schools pay 30-40k and boast about it. These are unfair to teachers.

Someone else with Bsc in another sector gets 100k plus, a teacher with Bsc gets 25-30k in most schools... Only a handful of schools pay up to 80k...found mostly in Lagos, Abuja, ph.

All we now have are capitalists running schools and focusing on profit. Teachers welfare are zeros, so students knowledge is at zero point too.

Unfortunately, churches that own schools are paying next to nothing as well. They now operate like capitalists. But this is an error. Church schools should pay better because their motive shouldn't be excess profit like the greedy proprietors we have today.

Engr Emeka Chukwocha said sometime ago, that 'it is a sin if you say you are a Christian, own a fairly populated school and be paying your teachers 25k' I add, it is wickedness.

To restore the fallen standard of education in Nigeria, teachers in private primary schools should earn minimum of 50k while secondary schools teachers should earn a minimum of 40k....

Even with a less populated school, agreement can be reached with the teachers, that as population increases, they will keep increasing salary. But no way, as population increases, the owner overly smile to the bank all alone.

To celebrate our teachers, to encourage our teachers, to restore the fallen standard if education, it begins with Good Teachers Welfare.

Some school owners are annoyingly wicked...even with high school fees from the students they still pay peanuts to the teachers. It's so annoying
