Growing up black was the best thing that ever happened to me.
The fondest and most precious memories that give me my daily 5 minutes of comic relief come from my childhood.

And seeing memes being created signifies I’m not alone in this.
Most of these memories were created with our mothers who spent time at home raising us. Our fathers were usually out there working to make us comfortable and afford to send us to good schools. We still wouldn’t have made it without them.

Here are 11 reasons why growing black especially as a Nigerian was just the best:

1. When you ask your mum for lunch money on school days in this era of change

2 2. Old school music on a Saturday morning equals house cleaning

3. When you try to share something hilarious with your mum

4. Every little girl owns this box

5. Those fridge magnets though

6. When you attend a private University far away from home and your mum takes you to the family Dr straight from the airport on holidays

7. Sunday mornings…

8. When your mum beats you so bad

9. Your first relaxer experience in the salon using Venus

10. When you grow so fast your parents have to change your uniform twice in a school session.

11. On Saturdays when you should be home enjoying Voltron in the morning and your mum takes you to the salon to make your hair.
