15 Things President Buhari Is Doing To Cut down The Cost Of Governance And Reduce Wastage

1) Buhari and his vice took a paycut of 50% to symbolise their commitment to the cutting down on the cost of governance.

2) Buhari then directed the RMAFC to review and prune down the salary of all public office holder in the country. That review will only come into effect after the expiration of the tenure of the current office holders, as the constitution says RMAFC cannot review the salary to the disadvantage of public office holders the moment they get into office.

3) Buhari reduced the number of federal ministries from over 40 to just over 20. Buhari reduced the number of federal advisers by more than 50%.

4) Buhari has limited the number of his entourage on foreign trips to essential personnels only.
4b) Buhari implemented the TSA to plug leakages in every institution of government.

5) Buhari has used the BVN to fish out over 40,000 ghost workers, thereby saving billions of naira of monthly salary for Nigeria.

6) Buhari removed the fraudulent subsidy, thereby saving government trillions of naira of ANNUAL payment for a programme that was only oiling the pockets of the corrupt.

7) No Federal Minister in Buhari's cabinet can travel out of Abuja without Buhari's say-so, thereby cutting down on wasteful spending associated with aimless travels.

cool Buhari has restructured the NNPC into a profitable venture for the first time in ages, the waste and leakages associated with the corporation has been reduced drastically.

9) Before Buhari appointed his Ministers, he spent months plugging leakages in the Federal Civil Service and Revenue Generating Agencies, resulting in Nigeria having more revenue to fund the budget from the non-oil sector than the oil-sector, for the first time since oil was discovered in Nigeria. Before Buhari took over, the oil sector contributed to 85% of our national revenue.

10) And most recently, Buhari has ordered the sale of 2 presidential jets from a fleet of ten, and directed that some of the jets be transferred to the Airforce for operational purposes thereby saving security agency the purchase cost of new jets.

11) President Buhari turned down moves to procure new cars for his office, preferring to use the ones left behind by his predecessor.

12) President Buhari has reduced the import of certain items we have comparative advantage in producing, in order to reduce the waste of foreign reserves.

13) Buhari also liberalised the petroleum sector, allowing importers to source for forex themselves, thereby reducing the waste of foreign reserves.

15) President Buhari's fight against corruption has also brought in a new discipline in the way public office holders handle money, they are now aware that they may be called to give account of their spending later in the future.

The list of what Buhari is doing to cut down waste and reduce the cost of governance is almost endless. No other president in Nigeria has shown a greater commitment to this course than Buhari. It's true that Nigeria's problem is enormous and it becomes difficult to feel the immediate impact of what he is doing, but to sit down there and call him names because you don't know what he's doing is not only uncharitable but disrespectful

Buhari has limited the number of his entourage on foreign trips to essential personnels only.
I concur. He recently saved 2billion by taking his whole family to UN Assembly.
Buhari removed the fraudulent subsidy, thereby saving government trillions of naira of ANNUAL payment for a programme that was only oiling the pockets of the corrupt.
He didn't remove anything. What he did was transfer the burden to the masses. We are the ones paying subsidy to make life easy for Buhari and his looting looters.

We saved this and that yet an average Nigeria youth is broke and hungry.

And he is still running from pillar to pole looking for where to borrow with all those monies he has saved.

He is planning to sell all our assets that is the back bone of our economy. Meanwhile, all the assets he wants to sell were aquired by his predecessors that he has been blaming.

I have never had if single asset accredited to Buhari that he aquired or initiated during days he was military President

Tell me if those his predecessors did not aquire those assets, what he have sold. Maybe Nigerians.

I will support him 100% if only he sells those assets acquired by him

On 1st of Oct, while Mr Peter Obi was talking in an event hall, President Buhari made a national broadcast.

It beats my imaginations why these media aides aren't concerned about what their Principal said, rather what Peter Obi said in a hall of less than 500 people.

You forgot to add that Peter Obi's speech was broadcast live on both AIT and Channels TV, the 2 channels with the widest coverage. It would be unwise for the government not to respond.

If buhari has truly cut down on the cost of government the budget of #7trillion would have gone down to #1billion.The cost of maintaining the 10 presidential jets would have reduced. You should remember that the President spent #20million to treat his ear abroad. Is that a cut down on cost of government? The president recently attended UN summit with his family.Hotel accommodation and feeding would also be incurred in that trip.

All in all,the cost of government has been cut down in the pages of Newspapers and not in reality.

Lol... And he frequents many countries like a tourist, even tags his whole family members along. His daughter wears expensive jewelries just like our First Lady does. Our Senators n Honourables re enriching themselves daily. Fighting corruption? Where has that led us? Wat has happened to the case of Dasuki till date? Wat happened to Budget padding? Wat has happened to Saraki's CCB trial? Saraki n Ekweremadu have been freed off d forgery trial

Na the ones wey we hear, so many re also ongoing in the closet. This govt is a joke bt I've not yet lost hope in Mr Buhari turning things around. Only time will tell

Good response. We know a lot of appreciable effort is being made. It is also nice to communicate these as Madam seems to be doing now.

But more needs to be done... e.g

- We need to see a massive reduction NASS expenditure because we get zero value from that arm of govt, if he must take on the NASS head on let him go ahead; we are behind him.
- We also need more transparency: how much has the presidency spent as at today vs budget... is this commensurate with spend in other budget areas.
- We have not seen NNPC report for Q2 2016.. that's not good.
- What have the governors done? Can't FG lean harder on them to tow the "Peter Obi" path?

Wailers will miss the fact that PMB has not bought new vehicles, it is little changes like these that we voted for. I remember the first thing Goodluck did when he took over was to buy a new presidential aircraft and a number of Mercedes Benz Guard 600 armored vehicles; that was when he lost my support.

Trash! Why this needless defence?
*The problem was never mr president's (nor his deputy's) salary. The real problem is their jumbo allowances with that of NASS members.
*Mr president limiting his entourage on foreign trips is laughable considering the number that went to NYC with him.
*was there clear evidences that he plugged the leakages that increased the revenue to fund the budget or was this included to make excuses for allowing things to go wrong b4 appointing his noise makers? Why then did we still borrow to fund the budget?
*What is the number of jets sent to the airforce? Can a presidential jet be suitable for our airforce?
*President's fight against corruption indeed...like dogara's padded budget? SGF clearing grasses in IDP camp for over 200m? buratai's dubai assests? illegal recruitments? tampering with arms probe to shield loyalists? Or returning slyva's 48houses ?

No Thanks!

has he paid the Union bank loan? If yes, how? Because his annual income is still less than 27mil.

Back to the koko....
Point no. 2 has yet to see the light of day since over a year this instruction was given

Point 3. Tministries may be reduced but the workers are still the same. Ministers are still 37(Though Constitutional), but the number of SA and PAs on media and social media alone has covered up for the extras

Point 4. Yet his entire family went with him to UN. His son was with him in China

Point 5. He never started BVN. It was already in play before him.

Point 6. This is the best point so far, but transferred the subsidy corruption to the Bureau De Change. Ask Emir Sanusi

point 7. It has always been the norm. You can't leave the country without the knowledge of your boss. Not news

Point 8. The post profits yet they are owing contractors, joint ventures and of-course, were is the money?

Point 9. Do you really believe this? yet we want to borrow to fund our budget, which is less than 30% implemented?

Point 10. Like he had another option. Out of 10 you sell 2....... mouth sealed.

Point 11. This one I must clearly commend.

Point 12. What? Yet our markets are flooded with foreign things. What policies are in place to encourage local production? Govt even import grass

Point 13. This is the worst scam of them all.

Point 14. No 14

Point 15. Na now corruption sitdown with us. COS (N500mil MTN deal), CBN (employment scam) COAS (Houses outside the country) and latest, SGF(N270mil for clearing grass). the most annoying thing is that He has just kept quiet.

Of all the points mentioned, our expenses has increased instead of shrinking. Budget has jacked up and even though we may be silent now, but one day we will still ask. Oil price in 2016 has a bench mark of about $40 (not really sure) and today its selling at $52. hmmmmmmm....... let's not ask the question now......

Sorry my opinion. Peter Obi's points wasn't for anyone to raise a reply but an advice to state governors not even the FG. So, all these political advisers, your work is not to defend but to advise. So do same.
