In 2014, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that men and women are not equal: "Our religion has defined a position for women (in society): motherhood."

Please readers, dont misconstrue the write-up in a wrong sense as to something pertaining to religion whatsoever. The point i am trying to analyse here is the moral stand point of where majority of men wether from the Christianity religion, islamic or traditional religion has subjected women to.

Permit me to check a religious book of the muslims and what position and reservation it has for women. Quran (2:223) - "Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will..." A man has dominion over his wives' bodies as he does his land. This verse may be overtly sexual, it is laced with how the men-human wield so much control and authority over the women-human.

In the Bible, the case may also not be different. Collossians 3:18 "Wives, submit yourselves to the husbands, as is fitting in the Lord."
Ephesians 5:21-23 : And be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. Wives, be subject to ur own husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He himself being the Savior of the body.
But the text of the bible clearly indicates that the word ''Submit'' is not limited to wives alone. It is a frequent concept in the Bible where God exhorts women to voluntary follow their husbands.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in far away Germany berate his wife by harshly referring to her position in society as an object for fun in the bedroom and a cook in the kitchen. This particular incidence happened in the very eye of a great leader whom ironically was a woman. This is a huge disappointment and an insult to the women-humans.

If Angela Merkel had been confined to the bedroom and the walls of her kitchen would the world have had a great leader like her?

Could it be that Mr Buhari is receiving inspiration from this:Ishaq 969 - "Lay injunctions on women kindly, for they are prisoners with you having no control of
their persons." - This same text also says that
wives may be beaten for "unseemliness".


A revered Islamic scholar, al-Ghazali, who has been called 'the greatest Muslim after Muhammad,' writes that the role of a Muslim
woman is to "stay at home and get on with her sewing. She should not go out often, she must not be well-informed, nor must she be communicative with her neighbors and only visit them when absolutely necessary; she should take care of her husband... and seek to satisfy him in everything... Her sole worry should be her virtue...She should be clean and ready to satisfy her husband's sexual needs at any moment." [Ibn Warraq]

In conclusion, President Muhammadu Buhari must be well informed that the ability of a woman should not be limited to the bedroom and the kitchen. The position of women goes beyond been seen as a tool for fun and sexual satisfaction for men. Women who were the most dormant segment in Nigeria's population have now become active participants in all walks of life. Till this day, women are becoming not only significant unit of the society but also influencing the course of social change in society.
