That was almost correct. grin

Each of the 5 stones was for Goliath and his 4 brothers who were also giants.  2 Sam.21:18-22

1.  Sippai or Saph 2 Sam.21:18
2.  Lahmi 1 Chron.20:5
3.  Goliath's brother with 6 fingers and 6 toes on each hand and foot. shocked  1 Chron.20:6-8;    2Sam.21:20-22

4.  Ishbi-benob 2 Sam.21:16-17
5.  Goliath 1 Sam.17

How many kings of Israel (including both the northern and southern kingdoms) were godly and ungodly?  .

Where is this scripture in the bible?
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be."

And how do you know that? It's not like that was stated explicitly in the account, and you could not have known what David was thinking when he picked up those stones. For all we know, that was just the number of stones he could fit into his sling bag, or it was a random selection. There are a variety of reasons that could be adduced for his choice. I don't see how the first answer of the five Philistine lords and cities is wrong.

Thanks for your interest in Bible study.  The jury is still out on the reason David chose 5 stones.

My reason for the answer I gave was that out of the 5 lords of the 5 Philistine cities (Joshua 13:3) it seems to me that Israel was only able to conquer the 4th city - the lord of Gittites.  These were of the inhabitants of the city of Gath first conquered by David(1Chron 18:1).   The city of Gath was mentioned more in the scriptures than any other of the 5 cities of the Philistines.  Gath was the town of Goliath who had 4 other giant brothers that the Philistines were using to test the children of Israel in the settlement of Canaan.  David and his men killed the last of the races of 'giants' (1 Sam.17:49; 2 Sam 21:16-22; 1 Chron.20:4-cool

From the above facts I concluded that it could not be the 5 lords of the 5 Philistine cities but Goliath and his 4 brothers from the city of Gath who were eventually killed by David and his servants (2 Sam. 21:22).
