Ambode is offerring 50,000 NGN salaries to Graduates who would work as bus conductors.

Some graduates are for it and some are against it.

Would you rather stay idle and frequently have one night stands as Toke Makinwa adviced ?

On the flipside, is being a conductor a bad thing? I cannot do the job but I think those who could loudly chant 'Greatest Nigeria students' can do that job. You have the Spirit and acrobatics needed. Also, I mean, all those raised voices aimed at trashing the points of another football enthusiast when it comes to Clubs can be paid for if one chooses to join this scheme.

I understand it might not look decent or worthy enough but some young People are morticians too. But I think it is better (in terms of salaries) than working in a warehouse or sitting behind a desk as cashier or receptionist for 20,000 salary while flashing plastic smiles. But everything falls on the platform of choice and career goals.

It is a sad thing in a way, but maybe the recruitment of graduates might redeem the face of that job. I feel sad when drivers want to be referred to as Pilots. For crying out loud, a driver is to a vehicle while a pilot is to an airplane. There is a huge difference in length of training and even the means of transport handled by either of the two.

Transport companies like PEACE MASS TRANSIT, GOD IS GOOD MOTORS, started on a smaller scale. Infact, the owner of PMT was a cab driver during his undergraduate days (So I heard). If he could build up to being what he is today, the recruits in this scheme can grow too.

When these things happen to our fellow youths, I hope we get prepared to make things happen in politics because its Us that are employed to snatch ballot boxes, to assassinate, to do life threatening jobs during campaigns.

WE ARE OUR PROBLEMS, Nigerian Youths.

Well said OP!
I think this is far far better than idling away and having your brain rust at home. It is even much more better than taking Toke Makinwa's advice.

Like you said, you can't do it, neither can I but there are people who can and those people should be allowed to take up the job. There's dignity in labour.

I support this initiative 100%.
A laudable attempt to take jobless graduates with combs hanging in their hair and loitering the streets without purpose off the streets to becoming productive. I must say!

It may only be for a month, some may last 3, others may last longer. But whatever the duration, giving youths an opportunity to work is commendable.

You dont need to encourage anyone to apply, this is nigeria and before you know it you see those slots filled up with people of lesser qualification and later some graduates will beg and pay agents to fix them in but the doors would have been shut.

It's not bad and again you're a corporate bus conductor and not one dressed in rags.

Only downside is you're 100% dependent on your salary. No change from customer as it's electronic ticketing.

50000 isn't bad in these hard times

You've only looked at one side of this and you're right in fact very very right I must admit but how about this other aspects you fail to look out for

It limits career development: except you study bus conductor in school, there's no chance you'd be able to improve if you delve into this line of work. I guess you'll work round the clock and no opportunity to either seek for better employment or improve on that skills you think you have.

Especially in a place like Lagos, i think graduates won't have the opportunity to last long in that line of work because from stories I've had, it's thugs that are specialized in that regard and getting those people displaced might just not be easy as some of us think it is or will there be more buses available to help propel these schemes because I'm sure the available buses have already have their conductors in place.

People saying it's better than idling away and having ones brain rust at home I don't see how it isn't possible with this too because your brain will surely be rusting away from career you've already set out to pursue if you delve into this.. But fine I'm definitely sure it'll keep one out of depression because you won't have the opportunity to always be thinking because where there's an idle mind, then thinking becomes inevitable and where there's improper thought then depression sets in

I'll advice the governor to look out more ways in ameliorating the suffering of the graduate

May God help all the unemployed graduate

The idea is laudable, it will keep people like ngeneukwenu, sarrki and aressa busy and gainfully employed instead of constituting a nuisance on nairaland. Good one Ambode cool

Nigerian graduates and their entitlement mentality. Most of them just want to sit down in one white office and be collecting salary.

Nope, We are not the problem.... The Nigerian governments is the problem. If they provide an enabling environment & funding, graduate can do so much with their lives.

Even if i were unemployed, i would never take up the job of a bus conductor.

It is so annoying that when politicians talk about providing jobs for youth they think bus conducting, keke maruwa driving, okada & all form of nonsensical offer. They jejely do backdoor recruitment for their offspring to be at CBN & other posh parastatal.

To think that a graduate is supporting this daft idea is an indictment of the Nigerian educational system.

Why do you need a university education of 4 to 8 years in some cases, to conduct buses?

Do you know how much fumes from buses you will be breathing in everyday?
Have you thought of dealing with zoo people who are rash & doesn't know what it means to queue.
This kind of job will destroy u as a human, you will shout yourself hoarse everyday & soon u'd be agressive.

As a graduate, please do anything else but be a bus conductor. I respect the job cuz obviously somebody has to do it, not necessarily a graduate.

it's a pity some of the graduates opposing this are primary school teachers collecting 20k per month!!!

nd their bigman uncle abroad is doing same bus conductor overseas sending money back home.

its only in nigeria bus conducting is seen as a dirty man job.......

50k is good, for the people that can.

It is not about being able to. It is about wanting to.

Everyone can do the job, but does everyone want to do it?

Some ladies go de ask, if it is a woman job.

Well, na women be obiano long bus conductor for anambra.
