I have a bsc in computer Engineering and a masters in information techology with distinction and have CCNA and Itil certification finished school when i was 20 years early and worked for telecoms company.

I joined my company 4 years ago hoping to be a technical support specialist, this was my job position in my previous company, but along the line i was told i will be a junior project manager.

I was first drafted to a Junior project manger role, this made me acquire the PMP and prince2 certification.
Before long the project administrator was fired and i began to do admin stuff. Although I shadow my technical colleagues do work and even relieve them when on leave on technical matters.
t is not like when this is your main work. My colleagues dont even want me to know much because they want to be relevant and in charge.

It is really affecting me and becoming a growing concern. It just so fustrating, although i give my best to the admin job and no one even knows I am frustrated. friends and colleagues think all is fine

I dont see myself acquiring skills that can put food on the table, what i basically do is draft letters, reports, print, photocopy, create invoice, manage the office sharepoint and purchase office supplies.
which to be honest do not require specialised skills. I am just worried, i dont see any special skills been added to me. it is like am not growing and learning anything for the past 4 years, other than the pmp and prince2 certification i acquired
i dont see any additional benefit.

The funny part is the pay is not so bad i go home with 387k every month exluding benefits and bonuses.

As a man i always believe one should always learn a skill in event of a job loss he would be able to establish himself from that skill. This admin is not a man job, plus you find yourself being distracted and doing
stuff for others instead of yourself.

I have tried to apply for various jobs in other places even for lower pay, but they have not been invited me for any interviews. Even applied for PM jobs, no calls. And IT is something you need to move with
else you become rusty as technology changes daily.

Am getting married soon and think career is something i need to address before settling down.

I am very grateful to God, I have a job, but for how long will i be like this, no growth prospect, just leaving and resuming i feel very empty.

Am not lazy, i have a vision for my life and i work with towards my goals.

Can someone in the house give me some tips as am getting frustrated. I am even thinking of starting a business, but the truth is that is suppose to be a side hustle.

Basically, stagnation is a fright a man should have after poverty. I understand how you feel. If you have a boss that makes d major decision talk to him. Nothing in this life that can't be renegotiated.

If the statuo quo remains , take courses that are relevant to your career path until you find an alternative which is comfortable for you.

U don't have job satisfaction.
IT specialist doing administrative job.
It doesn't align properly with your career ambition..

Due to Economic conditions in Nigeria, it wouldn't be best to just resign.
Firstly, meet the HR department in your workplace and ask them for a transfer, or you can lobby your way in the company to be able to get a transfer to the IT section.

If these doesn't work, start saving up to start up your own IT firm.. 387k monthly is some good money (anyways depending on your expenditure) in this recession.
Still keep up with applying to other IT companies.

I understand your situation perfectly, I have experience something very similar years ago.....
Job satisfaction is of utmost importance, more than financial gain. Lack of satisfaction can lead to low output, stress, depression, frustration..

The problem with Nigerian's we like working under someone,sir simple thing you need do is continue working in your new position so as to earn your salary,the amount you earn is very convinient.save enough money but while working in that position still read stuffs about your i.t,practice it when you have a chance gather enough money and if possible apply for a loan add to what you have and open an i.t firm of your own...it might be rough from the start but with dedication and hardwork you might overcome the challenges get people to work under you,if you start today tomorrow you might become a household name companies will want to affiliate with....**my opinion tho**

Irony of life is that, after spending so much time to become an expert in the so called field work. We would still come back to drag that same admin work at the office but with a new name -- operations manager

To the topic, set a time frame for yourself to get back to the field, within this time, do all possible to achieve your goal. Do not settle until u balance your career goal pls.

You need to first identify top companies you would like to work for then start applying to those companies...but be sure that you are one of the best if not the best in your field

In this recession

Well, you have access to internet. You can find lots of resources there. When i started in IT, i was working for a company doing just IT support and the server were managed by third party. I upgraded my skills myself by self studying and added those skills to my CV and got another job where i now mange servers . Now i am getting bored of it and want to do something more of hybrid infrastructure. I am currently self studying and if my company does not move with technology, i will have to move to another role. The good thing is my company is moving to an Hybrid infrastructure so i dont have to move.

You dont have to use a technology at work to be an expert. Spin up some labs and practice. read tech books from experienced guys. Try and push those technology to your organisation and if they say no, put it just as a skill in your CV

leave that career and you will see hell, bet me!!
