The Nigerian Army has mounted a blockade on the famous Niger Bridge in Onitsha

This has caused panic and uproar in the South-east – Several groups have condemned the Army’s action The ‘Operation Python Dance’ recently launched by the army in the South-east to provide security in the zone have given room to a blockade on the famous Niger Bridge in Onitsha.

The move have caused panic among residents in the area and outrage among interest groups in the region, Daily Sun reports. The chairman of International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law

(Intersociety), Emeka Umeagbalasi described the army’s action as a declaration of Jihad against the South-east.

He called on the federal government to prevail on the Army authorities to immediately dismantle the road blocks, adding that the Army’s internal security should not translate to psychological war against the Igbos, especially at a period it is known they return home to celebrate Yuletide “The Army’s occupation is nothing but a plot to subject the entire South-east to untold hardship, torture and extortion,’’ Umeagbalasi alleged.

Ok, no going back on Operation Python Dance grin grin grin

- The East must be secure and safe for returnees especially Christmas, New Year and Easter.
- There is need for the Police to launch similar operation maybe "Operation Stand-Well-Well"
- The Navy should patrol River Niger and its creeks with "Operation Wey-dem"
- Anambra State Government should continue with "Operation Kpuchapu"

Igboland must be cleansed of any criminal association, group or body shocked

Re: Heavy Tension In Onitsha As Soldiers Block River Niger Bridge by Nobody: 3:10pm On Dec 01, 2016
Why this high-handedness? There will never be any unrest in that region if the Army stays away. It is only when they hold peaceful protest that army shoots at them, then they retaliate. Stay away so that peace will reign, if you must stay around to ensure peaceful protest, there is no need for heavy deployment and shooting at unarmed protesters.

There is war at North East, boko haram are unfinished. Cowards!

Agu dowa gee agba there... Tunder tiwa gi nyi ewu. Have you witnessed the level of log jam caused by this blockades. Must it be at that bridge to suffer and punish motorists.

Is south-east the only place with security challenges. How have they tackled the issue of Shiites and Fulani herdsmen in the north.

Go and check the level of extortion on motorists.

Is there a war in the South-East?. Blockade at the Niger Bridge. Have Soldiers mounted blockade in those villages that are continually ravaged by the herdsmen? There is a systematic ethnic cleansing going on. The govt. is looking for a reason to make it full blown
