Please GIS and Remote Sensing is not restricted to Geography or Geographers alone.. Please stop that impression... When you have this knowledge to compliment your GIS expertise, you can climb higher than any other candidate. No questions asked. What are some of the other popular trending GIS jobs? GIS programming is a big one. But be careful about listing Python experience on your resume if you don’t want a programming job. Webmap development, geostatistics, remote sensing, computer-aided design are other in-demand skills. Think of GIS as more of a tool than a field in itself GIS + programming = job GIS + forestry = job GIS + web development = job GIS + statistics = job GIS + geology = job GIS +Civil Engineering =Job GI5+Public Health =job GIS+mathematics =job GIS +Surveying =job GIS +Physics =job GIS +Elect=job GIS+Geography =job GIS+metrology=job GIS+Urban planning =job GIS +demography =job GIS+Fishery=Job GIS +Management =Job GIS +Hospitality =Job GIS +Sociology =Job A varied skill set serves you well. Adapt to technology and software change. Don’t ever stop training and don’t ever stop looking for a challenge. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Guyman02: You can quote me anywer....d original plan of abj which is what is used now was designed by a Geography professor from University of Ibadan now in bkessed memeory...lets just end dz arguement...it all depends on what one wants....that determines wich is better. Cos i heard someone saying EIA done by URP....EIA is a multidisciplinary assessment done by almost everyone. For me a geographer(B.Sc)..M.Sc Env control nd mgt, specialise in remote sensing and GIS, also a programmer(python)....and am enjoying myself. There are also URP guys enjoying demsefs too nd der are also geographers yet to enjoy so also URP..so also d engineers, lawyers,..... I will just say let d fellow choose whatever course she wants, let d person love it, do adequate research on d selling pt of d course, be open minded and most importantly connect to d greatest Geographer and URPlanner of all which is GOD. And wit little knowledge nd skill from either...u will earn a good income and be fulfilled. Drop pen. 2 Likes 1 Share |

U av a pt tho. Altho Geog gave birth to GIS, and when pple saw its usefulness as a tool in analysing...they made it open to all disciplines. In most university GIS is mostly taught in d department of geography or borrowed lectures from d dep of geog. |

[b]I was just passing by then I noticed so many good reason given in a good way BUT. Nobody should choose a career for you no matter the situation. Do not go for any course just because u want the admission badly. Geography n URP are great courses in a great n well developed country. my advice for u is that: 1- study a course u re good at, in order to finish with good grades 2- study a course that have job opportunities 3- know the prospective places u can work before going d course 1 Like |

You can aswell enquire of the Lord, because, in Nigeria today if God is on your side you will succeed even if Yoruba you read. All the Best! 2 Likes |

The Reason, I Believe You Didn't Make It In That Field Is Because Of Any Or All Of This Reason : 1. You Don't Have Connection 2. You Don't Have Money To Further Your Education 3. You Can't Think Outside The Box. If Any Of This Is At Your Advantage, I See No Reason Why You Won't Make It Your Career Even If You Study The Least Marketable Course In The World. |

Geography is a wider course than Urban and Regional, they are often linked with architecture though.. I studied Geography and Regional Planning... Geography is a very broad course,we have lots of specialisation under Geography like GIS, Metrology etc.. We believe the future is bright and now that everyone is investing agriculture... Geography surely had an edge there... I have lots of friends that works in an Oil companies with the same course. . God will lead her... 1 Like 1 Share |

JosephCudjoe:Another wrong twist of history.. The first application of GIS was done in the area of Public Health to map diseases spread...in fact Programmers, computer scientist, Mathematicians, Statisticians, Surveyors etc have contributed are still contributing to the advancement of GIS... Moreover in some universities GIS and Remote Sensing is under the faculty of sciences, some engineering others Environmental design.. 1 Like 1 Share |

Geography vs Urban and Regional planning are two different course. Geography is not a professional course while Urban and Regional planning is. Urban, City, Spatial, Physical Planning is recognized as Town Planning in Nigeria, which after passing through the professional exams by TOPREC you are registered and can establish your firm or work in Government Agencies in charge of development, still you can work in the private sectors for construction companies etc...The Town Planner decides what happens to Land, what be in place and what should be demolished.Town Planners render services like :- * Preparing the Master plan of a City * Preparing Layouts for Estates development * Pursuit of Development permit for clients(prospective house owners). * Advocacy planning: Defense of a client in court in cases of illegal demolition by development control agencies which is also headed by a Town Planner. * Preparation of SPAR, and EIAR * Preparation of plans( buildings from knowledge of Architecture) and maps. * Supervise construction of buildings from knowledge of related courses in the built-in industry. In essence, you can't compare geography with Town Planning |

God bless You I studied geography for my bachelor and to the best of my knowledge you have more chances of getting into the UN system and international corporation, talk about climate change, humanitarian field, disaster risk reduction, resources management and the likes, URP is equally great just want to enlighten on misconception that geog as a field is irrelevant in the present day Nigeria.i know a lots of geographers who are self employed in Nigeria JosephCudjoe: 2 Likes |
