Rivers Rerun: Hon Boma Goodhead declared winner Asari Toru/Akuku Toru LGA by gracepoint01: 10:46am On Dec 12, 2016
After two long days of what seemed to be a fight for freedom against the powers of Rotimi Amaechi and the federal might to undermine the wishes of the people of kalabari in their overwhelming support of Hon. Boma Goodhead the PDP candidate for the Asari-Toru/Akuku Toru LGA, the INEC electoral officer has just declared Hon. Boma Goodhead the winner of the just concluded Rivers legislative rerun in the early hours of today.

It will be recalled that late last night an overwhelming reinforcement of mobile police and SARS men enveloped the community in a bid to escort the INEC officer away without announcing the results. However, it was as a result of this suspicion that her elder brother Asari Dokubo in company of other stakeholders stormed Abonnema, the headquarters of this local government to resist any plan of the military to undermine the wishes of the Kalabari people.

Late yesterday night, there were however reports of shootings in order to disperse the community youths who had come out to protest the continued delay of the announcement of the collated results of the election. Earlier on Monday, the youths of the community blocked the entrance and exit of Abonnema in order for the electoral officer to declare the results without being taken away by SARS men. It will be recalled that in the previous rerun few months ago Boma Goodhead of PDP had secured over 30 000 Votes in Akuku Toru LGA while the elections in Asari Toru was cancelled and postponed. Over the weekend She won over Six Thousand Votes in Asari-Toru LGA over her opponent Hon Dawari George who was an incumbent before the 2015 general elections. After collating the results Hon. Boma Goodhead scored 39,444 votes to defeat Hon Dawari George of APC who scored 8817. She won this election with the widest victory margin in any of the HOR elections conducted in Rivers State.

After the announcement there was wide spread jubilation and victory walk.
