Story! This can't be enforced so there is no need dwelling on it. What i will subscribe to is for frsc to tell people the dangers of night travel through petrol vehicles which in turn will discourage them from embarking on such.
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by alaskido(m): 11:30am On Dec 19, 2016
Hmmmmmm.... different folks, different strokes. I thought the case should be the reverse. Heavy haulage trucks should travel at night since the commercial buses will be off the road.

Now that he wants to arrest trucks plying the roads at night, he will need to start a night shift for his men and also equip them with AK47 rifles in case they are attacked by robbers or the tanker drivers at night.

In some states (like Imo State) they're banned from moving in the daytime. So should they be flying now?

Ur solution is just like adding poison inside poison makit more poisonous....

cus what u are trying to avoid in d night will start happening during the day.

that part dat says, when tankers crash, they lose 50million naira (tanker content + vehicle) worth. non of our biz, what matters is the life of the people which is priceless.

still go and sit down with your crew, make a good strategy about it. and if you need strategies, I'll give una.

is either you ban car's and buses from travelling at night, and allow the trucks to operate during that hours or..............i comment my reserve later

But that is suppose to be the best time for them if the roads were good enough. I mean a time when if the crash there will be less or no victim, they won't have to compete since they have the roads to themselves.

Doing this is parallel to creating a more clumsy environment.

Very correct !

I think Tankers and any other big lorry should be allowed to travel at night while other smaller vehicles should travel day time.

Ayam not understanding this move!... If it is unsafe to transport fuel by road at night, then is it safer during the day when it is clear that casualties may be far higher in the event of a crash?... I would have expected the FRSC to encourage night only travels for fuel tankers and other heavy haulage vehicles.

Na recession make dem confuse naa.
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by Nobody: 11:43am On Dec 19, 2016
this is just messed up, most tankers burst into flames in day time which causes havoc for motorists. the best time for them to move is at night. this policy is just counter productive. ow do dese frsc people reason?

Lol. But most crashes happen during the day na.

Exactly, during when other road users and bystanders and therefore more property are at risk.
This move would furthermore congest traffic and lead to more accidents; not sure if they have thought this through before arriving at this conclusion.

londonrivals:
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Sunday reiterated its total ban of petroleum tanker drivers from embarking on night journeys across the country from Monday, Dec.19. Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, the FRSC Corps Marshal, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that efforts had been put in place to impound any truck found contravening the order.

According to him, the ban is to promote safe petroleum haulage in the country. “No tanker should be seen on the road at night, we need to find solutions to incessant crashes of tankers on the road. “Beneficial as petroleum sector is to the nation, safe haulage remains FRSC concern.

“There is a problem and we have solutions to them, no more night journeys for petroleum products as from Monday, Dec. 19, enough is enough. “The effects of crashes are quite unquantifiable on human life, the environment and to the economy,” Oyeyemi said. The FRSC boss also said that a crash involving a tanker laden with petrol would lose about N50million being the cost of its contents and the vehicle. Oyeyemi said that many crashes that happened at night had also caused severe damage to people and the community.

He said that apart from the lives lost, number of houses, shops, farm and other investment were usually engulfed in flames during a crash involving fuel tankers. The Corps Marshal added that such incident had portrayed the nation in bad light in the comity of civilised nations. Oyeyemi said that the dimension and scale of devastation caused by crashes involving petroleum tankers was evident in its multiplier-effects on the society. According to him, there are existing laws and policies of government that are sufficient in tackling the problem if every stakeholder complies. He said that the National Road Traffic Regulations 2013, the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme and Safe-to Load- Projects were part of the government efforts to tackle the problem. Oyeyemi advised tanker drivers to stop deliberate violation, neglect and non-compliance to basic road traffic regulation. He also appealed to them to stop intimidating other road users, especially, those who drive light weight vehicles by exposing them to unnecessary risk.

The FRSC boss said that the mandatory Speed Limiting Device installation was a good initiative aimed at reducing speed-related crashes. “It is also essential to install trackers in the vehicles on the fleet to obtain real time information about drivers and driving behaviour which are paramount for successful operations. “Also drivers involved in delivery and distribution of petroleum products in the country must be properly trained and certified.

“Exposing drivers to new and emerging trends in the transport sector should be considered a priority,” he said. NAN reports that two weeks to the end of the year, the FRSC had said that about 283 tankers had been involved in road accidents across the country. Oyeyemi disclosed this statistics in Lagos on Saturday Dec. 17, at the Branch Executive Council Meeting of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTDs). He said that over N2billion was lost as a result of the accidents during the period

road safety didn't get this right at all.....

night is the best time for tankers to travel because the traffic propensity is low during the night and also it will reduce the pressure on our road during the day which in turn will automatically reduce road traffic jam and road traffic accident.

even if tankers will crash at night, the severity will be lesser than that of day time that can cause multiple crashes
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by justy15: 12:25pm On Dec 19, 2016
in this regime every government policy is turned up side down. is day time the best for petrol tankers to move? knowing that any accident involving them in the day records high casualties because of the high no of vehicles on routes
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by Originalsly: 12:26pm On Dec 19, 2016
Day or night... there would be accidents... more casualties and damage during the day when roadways are crowded. Somebody likes blood and carnage. Tanker drivers need to have special licence ... and tankers have special safety requirements ... but all is of no use if not enforced.
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by ritux: 12:30pm On Dec 19, 2016
I think it should be the other way round.

All trucks and haulage (long) vehicles should be encouraged to move at night from 8PM to 7AM.

Most of the accidents lately are either Dagote truck ramming into a vehicle or a tanker ramming into other vehicles while trying to overtake.

Someone should pass this to FRSC.
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by Nobody: 12:36pm On Dec 19, 2016
What happened to freedom of movement?

It doesn't make sense to say tankers should move in the day time, there will too much pressure on our roads.

There are documented reports of tankers crashing in the day time and killing people.

Emphasis should have been laid on promoting safe driving habits amongst tanker drivers, road rehabilitation and use of sound trucks.

These guys (FRSC) just wake up and make crazy decisions with consulting end users. angry

it is a very dangerous step as most accidents caused by big trucks occurs during the day.

This is the result of having bumheads at the helm of affairs. How in frying hell wld one expect to have less accidents or casualties during the day, if these trucks travel during the day with oda cars? They wld have to compete with these oda vehicles and the result is best imagined, since these trucks in their full numbers wld have no choice but to travel during the day. Haba! Did spider bite these ppl's brains? undecided

Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by treelz(m): 1:14pm On Dec 19, 2016
I don't get it......what FG/SG should concentrate on is to put the roads in good order. That way the crashes of night travelling tankers would be reduced drastically. This crappy policy will only end up in creating more chaos if the tankers should crash by day. Imagine the number of road users for daytime. The whole policy is a failure @ the start sef.

You took that right off my fingers.

I was thinking it is better for petrol-carrying tankers to travel at night when there's less traffic on the road.

Banning them from night travel will cause more petrol tankers to ply the road in the day and the bad roads, traffic congestion and all will only trigger more clashes.

Bro.frsc. You've been imposing ban and law anyhow as if you are the senate or God, pls do proper consultation and see you are not getting it right, ballance your power by imposing to the which ever govt to do the roads that are causing 60percent of accidents, also sanitize your office for issueing driving licence to people without proper process like blood test for trace of madness, alhcoholic, optical,hbp,e.t.c
So stop puting everything on the poor mases.
Re: FRSC Bans Night Travels For Petrol Drivers by NobleG1(m): 2:45pm On Dec 19, 2016
Incompetent FRSC! They chase rats while their house burns!

Night travel is not the problem! The main problem is that most truck drivers are unqualified to drive!

What FRSC should do is to create strict driving tests (both theory and both practical) according to type of vehicle, which potential drivers must pass before they're issued driver's licence. And those who already have driver's licence and not yet tested must also undergo the same tests when they come for licence renewal.

A driver who passed driving tests for small cars has no business driving Buses or Trucks. Someone who passes two tests for small cars and truck, is qualified to drive both types of vehicle. And every driver's licence must have one or more vehicle logos indicating the type of vehicle the bearer is qualified to drive.

An unqualified driver has no business driving. By doing this, car crashes will be reduced on Nigerians roads! Presently, unqualified truck "drivers" cause almost 90% of all road car crashes! This is not a coincidence.
