Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, commissioned the biggest of the Palms Stores in Nigeria, Palm Store, Ota.

Speaking with journalists after the commissioning, Governor Amosun expressed satisfaction at the fact that made in Nigeria products, especially those made in Ogun State, were in the majority on the shelves at the store.

The governor noted that this would further help in boosting the economy of the state.

Governor Amosun explained that with the opening of the Mall during this festive season, Ogun State residents would be able to buy goods at cheaper rates and enjoy the Yuletide.

The Ogun State Governor who was the first customer to shop at the Mall, was joined by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga;

Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa and other members of the state executive council.

The Financier of the project, Mr Tayo Amusan, while speaking with journalists, noted that over a thousand job opportunities have been created by the Mall.

Amusan added that the Mall will go a long way in adding to the growth of the economy of Ogun State.

I have mixed feelings for this commissioning because these retail stores will kill growth of local business, so I don't see how it will boost economy rather the revenue/ gains goes to pocket of foreign investors.

Meanwhile another one is presently ongoing at Abeokuta (Olumo mall) as it may outclass this palm mall in terms of its size. Very huge site I must say.

The Lord will safe us in this country. What is the importance of these malls to nation building. And what is the interest of our dear governor. What concerns the state in all these. I think it is a matter of priority being misplaced. When I heard the biggest palms store, I was thinking that it will have something to do palm trees and its associated products. Unfortunately, it is not.

Not.
Malls can also lead to the rise of local supply chain.
The advantage goes to the producers at a cost to the unproductive middlemen( in Nigeria's case , multiple middlemen) .
You can either choose to allow the shelf to be filled with imported goods or start making some yourself.
Many manufacturing plants cost less than the price of the Tokunbo cars many of you ride about .
Go back to farming or manufacturing. Make good products and the mall will put them on the shelf.

The black man seems to be naturally wired to only consume and not productive, or how else do we explain the gluttony of the crass political class and their unbridled brigandage and primitive acquisition of wealth?

Gov Amosun and misplaced priorities... I dont know if him and Obj are blind. Obsanjo/Amosun should do something about idiroko rd esp from Iyana-iyesi down to Atan and Even Itele.. Ota roads are in a terrible state! I am even wondering how he accessed the roads to get to shoprite... Commissioning malls is now an achievement for Nigerian Govt... What a shame undecided

These big malls in Nigeria should be made to stimulate/patronize made in Nigeria products.

If its produceable in Nigeria, no need to import it.

You're complaining about too many malls, yet you want Naija to be like Yankee. Make up your minds abeg.

You prefer to shop in open-air bend-down boutiques?

What we're seeing is what they call modernisation.

You cannot be calling yourselves a modern nation and you'll be going to the market to shop. People in advanced countries don't do that. Malls and large, air-conditioned supermarkets are where people shop in the advanced world.

You're heading in that direction and yet you're complaining.

Kuku go to your village and live (oops, there's a mall coming up there too).
