Truck Drivers Block Road In Kogi, Protest N10,000 Daily Tax By State Government by Tunexclusive(m): 11:59pm On Dec 19, 2016
Protesting truck drivers have blocked the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene highways since the early hours of Monday over the N10,000 tax.

Daily N10,000 tax was imposed by the Kogi state Revenue Service.

The state government, police and the Federal Road Safety Corps were, however, taking measure to ensure free flow of traffic.

No official reaction yet from the state government, but the state police Commissioner, Mr Badulahi Chafe. is currently in a meeting with the leadership of the truck drivers to end the blockade.

One of the motorists trapped in the gridlock, Mr Isaac Ighure, said that he had remained on the same spot on the road for over three hours .

Igure described the development as bad for the state and the country, especially when it is happening few days to Christmas.

The gridlock has stretched to over 30 kilometres as at the time of this report.

The meeting with officials of the truck drivers is holding at the state police command headquarters.

The Police Public Relations Officers, ASP William Aya, who confirmed this to newsmen said that the issue would be resolved soonest in order to ease the hardship on motorists and the travelling public

All major roads in Kogi are federal roads constructed and maintained by the federal govt.

Why will this sh1t tier state demand tolls on roads they neither constructed or maintain?

Man's inhumanity to his fellow man!
When Nigerians start to vote with their heads and hearts(true love for our country),and not their stomachs or senseless political, ethnic or religiously biased sentiments, this country will start to know true development.

This really need to be addressed now.

On the 9th of December 2016,...A situation occurred at the military check point by the Muritala Bridge. The driver of a truck loaded with cows coming from Maiduguri was shot dead by a soldier at that checkpoint because of paying N400 instead of the usual alledged N500 fixed bribe amount been collected from truck drivers anytime they passed there.

For over 6hrs (Between 2pm - 8:15pm), the road linking Abuja to Lokoja was blocked by other truck drivers on the road, we were stucked and nowhere to go. There were some dignitaries caught up in the situation that tried there best to resolve it but was futile untill when the Governor came around at 8:30pm because the road was cleared.

Now, the governor is asking them N10,000 daily tax...For what?,...is this not another sort of bribe? cool

Most of the people complaining sold their vote for a token and they are reaping what they sow.... Imagine the government that's meant to help the masses are ripping them off....

Democracy is not an Africa system of government and can never serve the people rather their own selfish interest...

10k! Dat's about 300k per truck/lorry in a month. Multiplied by 1000 trucks in the state will give about N300 million as state revenue from trucks alone in one month. Issorite!
