Two poverty-stricken schoolboys were left stunned after finding £2,000 in the pockets of secondhand jeans given to them by a charity.

Khamnon Kaengwichit and his cousin Nawapon Sopasereesuk, both aged nine, received the trousers from a local collection to help the poor deal with the cold winter in Thailand.

But when they tried them on at home in Tak province, northwest Thailand, they were shocked to find 100,000THB in used notes – worth around £2,000 – in the pockets.

Honest – rather than pocketing the cash, the boys returned it (Pictures: SWNS)
Rather than pocketing the cash, the two boys went straight back to their teachers to return the money.

As a reward for their honesty, local authorities gave them each a 5,000THB – £100 – reward, as well as new clothes and blankets.

A teacher at the school said: ”The first thing they did when they found the money was come straight back to school and say they wanted to return it.

”The two boys have been very honest. They’ve done a very good job handing back the money. It’s a kind deed.”

District Red Cross chairwoman Nongkhran Panayakhom took officials to visit the boys and their family at their rundown wooden shack home, while school headmaster Sawat Chaniew said they were trying to trace the owner of the trousers.
