It is time to leave Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha alone

Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is the elected Governor of Balyesa state. While we may think of him in any form we like, to me as a Nigerian he is a source of great embarrassment as a leader; he however came to the job as an elected official by the people of his state. If they feel the way I do about him then they should follow the constitutional process for removing him from office, anything less is a COUP.

"General" Olusegun Obasanjo may feel as embarrassed as he wants in Abuja but he cannot and should not interfere in the affairs of any state, anything less is a COUP against the constitution of Nigeria he swore to uphold.

Until we start to respect the role of our constitution and its processes we will have third term agendas (pole movement), ineffective governance, insecurity (remove the man I don’t like), military rule etc.

Sending the military and silencing the radio makes not just Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha the bad guy but our silence in the view of what is intimidation, harassment and violation of due process for a quick fix makes all look like immature jungle monkeys to the world.

They go begin ask, these people no get laws…..

It is time to leave Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha to his people. We can debate the issues of governance and advocate the right ideas but not remove the man without due process

For a man who was part of every coup from 1966 till 1976.
After retirement, he came back into coups... the 1999 version... did one in 2003 (do you think your votes counted...if you voted all), and perfected the art against Ngige.

What else do you expect from him?

If the corruption in the federal government is better than that of Bayelsa... then, believe me, the moon would shine brighter than the sun.

Both you guys are pathetic asking the government to leave this man alone. The man is a criminal and should be prosecuted and jail just like Tafa Balogun was jailed.

That is the problem with Nigerians, we all need to come together and say no to corruption. Regardless of who you are, if you stole public funds for your own vendetta you should be disgraced and impeached.

You miss the point entirely. I am not against his prosecution but that due process must be followed not the cowboy method currently employed.

Pendelite I agree whole-heartedly with you that the looting governor should be left alone to serve his jail term in peace at Brixton Prison in London.

Gov Diepreye Alamieyeseigha is just a bad influence on governance in NIGERIA. I assumed he was innocent , up until he jumped bail to NIGERIA. If he has used funny ways to come to nigeria he should be sent back thru any means FUNNY!!!.

He has embarrassed NIGERIA, so Nigeria should in turn embarrass him too.
i hope to hear (from london) about how he will cope in jail soon grin grin

The question is did he commit the crime or not? If yes then he should do the time.

We all know that they are all quilty and the efcc is selective but hey why don't we sit back

and enjoy the show with a box of pop-corn. no body should leave any body who knows who will remain
in 2007 and the type of anti-corruption that will be on, maybe it will be OBJ's turn then to sneak into the country and call it an act of God! since God spoke to him in 1999!!!

NIGERIA we hail thee.....

this is not a joking matter, and selective or not the EFcc is doing a phenomenon job, we must start rooting out the bad eggs we elect to power one by one, and that will send a clear message to the future and present elective officer that there is no save heaven for criminals, one day you will be judged. I am so upset on how this people loot money to foreign country and my fellow Nigerians are still chasing MOLUEE in Lagos, there is Money in Nigeria but the elective officials are just greedy and leave us to die in poverty.

i agree with the above 100% but u see this is Nigeria where a thief is crowned and a saint is forgotten. if the above is to be done properly then ALL our leaders frm OBJ to the Counsellor WILL be rooted. but the damage has been done and i dont see how it will be corrected with the likes of chris mba and aneni still breathin oxygen. sellective or not am enjoyin the script BABA has given to EFCC to at out so enjoy bro.

For the record this post is not about the guilt of innocence of the man but rather the method resolution of the facts.

1. He should not have jumped bail; he is not in Nigeria and will not be prosecuted because the BOSS does not like him. (one day our country will be the same) – So for those presuming guilt, one for you.
2. So he jumped bail, he loses all authority to remain the Chief Security Office of his state.

So now what happens?

1. If the constitution says he has immunity then respect it, in due time his term will end and he will face the music. Why are we always in a hurry?

2. If he wants to remain as Chief Security Officer of his state then he must respect the law and return himself to Britain to face the Music, unless he can prove he has immunity there and is being wrongly prosecuted.

3. Otherwise if he will not comply with (2) above, then he should be given the constitutional protections his office offers him but ostracized by the other law abiding people in the country. However we should not change the game in the middle because we want one man, then we are not letting the constitution mature.

4. That is the real argument here about harassment and intimidation.

5. If we don’t like our own constitution then let’s change it and remove immunity for all Governors, not just the ones that are not the flavors of the month.

Alamieyeseigha denies Terry Waya

Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State has denied claims by socialite, Mr. Terry Waya that he (Waya) stood surety for his bail to the tune of £500,000 (about N114.4 million).
Denying the claim, aides of the governor, who sought anonymity, said Waya, a Benue State-born businessman and politician "did not pay for the governor's bail as he recently claimed," stressing that the false claims were capable of dampening the moral of the real people who put up the money for the bail.

According to the aides "the governor is quite disturbed by the claims of Mr. Waya. Even if it were true that he put up the money, and he did not, would he go about shouting on rooftops that this is what he has just done?"The aide said further that the governor was also displeased with Terry Waya's outburst in the paid advertisement to announce his role in the bail.

"His Excellency is also not at all pleased with the name calling that he (Waya) embarked upon, referring to some people as the "anti-Christ." I can tell you that he (governor) is extremely embarrassed to have been associated with this whole Waya affair. In fact, we believe Mr. Waya may be acting out a script which has very little to do with recent travails of the governor."

Gov Alamieyeseigha was arrested last September 15 at Heathrow Airport, London, on his way from Germany where he had gone for medical attention and was charged with money laundering having been found with £1.8 million in cash.
He was thereafter remanded at Brixton Prison, till October 13 when he was allowed to leave the prison for his London residence after meeting conditions for bail which included a bail bond of £500,000.

Mr. Waya had thereafter claimed in newspaper interviews and in paid advertisement in some newspapers that he "deposited a cash sum of five hundred thousand pounds (£500,000.00) bail bond as part of the conditions to secure the release from prison of Chief D. S. P Alamieyeseigha, the governor of Bayelsa State."

In the advertisement, Waya had also said since he was mentioned in connection with the bail matter, he had "received a few calls of threats from government apologists, fortune seekers and their agents of oppression trying to intimidate, witch-hunt and blackmail me into abandoning a friend of mine in his hour of need."

He also said that if the governor was a proponent of a "well known agenda propagated by this evil and oppressive Anti-Christ, he would have done no wrong..."
Gov. Alamieyeseigha's aides, who distanced the governor from Waya's claims however, insisted that "the bail was paid by true patriots who felt genuinely concerned by what he was being subjected to by the London Metropolitan Police, and that he remains eternally grateful to these persons."

A source close to the presidency contacted yesterday on the issue said that it was commendable that the governor has dissociated himself from Terry Waya's outburst, noting that "it would help his case."According to the source who pleaded anonymity, "any further belligerent attitude associated with the governor can only make the federal government not to intervene in his matter, "pointing out that sustained pressure from those appealing to the presidency to help the governor .

However, Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode in his response to Mr. Waya's statement, said "we will not dignify such submissions with a response."

Bishop4u: Well that is a huge amount of money to let go, which further attest to the fact that this GOV is a criminal, and that money for his bail was probably part of the stolen money from Nigeria. No man will forgo such a huge amount of money for nothing, unless you are Bill Gate.

Abeg forget about immunity nonsense, Bill Clinton has immunity too and was paraded in front of the world as a no good husband. All the man did was have sexual relations, to me this governor crime supersede Bill and he should be force to resign with immediate effect. If Tafa was forced out of office, then why spear this man, that is not sending a clear message across the board.

A day Nigerians will judge without sentiments is the beginning of good things to come.
Diepriye or wharever he is called is a criminal and has shown that to the whole world.
Set sentiments apart, this man must face the music.

He's a disgrace to Ijaw nation and to Africa at large.
What a shame! A whole governor dressing like a woman! cry
Re: How to Deal With DSP Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State by hotspice(f): 1:22pm On Dec 09, 2005
Thank you oh Greatpeter. Please tell them.

As of today he has been impeached and arrested in the presence of his parents
What a shame, both to Nigeria and his people. Though his impeachment/arrest did not follow the due process.
