The Academic Staff Union of Colleges of Education, Niger State branch, has called on the State Government to pay its members emoluments fully to avert brain drain in 2017.‎
Alhaji Haruna Baba, Chairman of the union, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Saturday that the institution was losing academics to other institutions outside the state.
He said union members were supposed to receive 53.3 per cent ‎enhancement on their Harmonised Tertiary Institution Salary Structure (HATISS), and 17 per cent as academic allowances.
Baba said academic staff members were receiving only 15 per cent as against the 53.3 per cent of HATISS, which was implemented after several struggles.

According to him, some colleges of education have started to benefit from the approved emoluments.
“This salary enhancement we are asking for is to enable us to continue research in our various fields as recommended by the National Commission for Colleges of Education.
“As academic staff, you cannot get promotion unless you engage in writing of conference papers for presentation.
"These paper presentations can be local or international and can only be achieved when we receive adequate emoluments.
“But here, we are being underpaid. Promotion is based on our work, but we need money to perform and achieve this height,” the union leader said.
