The Wedding Party Makes N200m In Less Than 30 Days! by Orikinla1: 8:53am On Jan 03, 2017 |
Kemi Adetiba's The Wedding Party just released last month December 2016 has become the highest grossing Nollywood movie with N200,000,000 so far. And the film production budget was only N60 million. The movie erased the box office records of AY's "A Trip To Jamaica" that has made N168 million so far and "30 Days in Atlanta" that made more than N137 million. Plot The Wedding party follows the shenanigans that go on during the planning of a wedding in Nigeria. Dunni a 24 year old art gallery owner and only daughter of her parents, Engineer Bamidele and Mrs Tinuade Coker, is about to marry the love of her life, IT entrepreneur Dozie the handsome son of Felix and Obianuju Onwuka. The couple took a vow of chastity and are looking forward to a ground -breaking first night together as a married couple. Between matchmaking attempts on the bridal train, a wedding planner on a mission to succeed, the unruly behaviour of some ‘village’ guests much to Tinuade’s horror, Dunni's uncertainty about her new husband's faithfulness during the time of their courtship, amidst colourful aso-ebi, eclectic music, small chops, and souvenir drama, we begin to wonder whether Dunni and Dozie will get through their wedding reception unscathed. Cast Adesua Etomi - Dunni Coker (The Bride) Banky Wellington - Dozie Onwuka (The Groom) Richard Mofe Damijo - Felix Onwuka (Father of the Groom) Sola Sobowale - Tinuade Coker (Mother of the Bride) Iretiola Doyle - Obianuju Onwuka (Mother of the Groom) Alibaba Akporobome - Bamidele Coker (Father of the Bride) Zainab Balogun - Wonu (The Wedding Planner) Enyinna Nwigwe - Nonso Onwuka (The Groom’s Brother) Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama - Yemisi Disu (Maid of Honour) Daniella Down -Deardre Winston (Maid of Honour)

I project that "The Wedding Party" will become the second Nigerian movie to gross over US$1Million since the 1977 box office hit, "Bisi, Daughter of the River" directed by Joseph Abiodun Babajide, aka Jab Adu who passed away in 2016. His movie played at more than 300 cinemas for three years in Nigeria. There are millions of Nigerians who will like to see "The Wedding Party" during the Valentine week next month. 1 Like |

prof800:Thanks. We have to before the public is misinformed. It is phenomenal for a movie "Bisi, Daughter of the River" to run for three years at more than 300 cinemas in Nigeria when over 1 million Nigerians went to see movies at 50K per seat and US$1 was 75K in the 1970s. |

Loved the movie so much i had to go watch it twice. It was a brilliant movie, very well done and d cast was wonderful. Not all were household names in nollywood but they still pulled it off. Kudos to the team! 1 Like |

Orikinla1:I heard a lot about Bisi Daughter of the River, while growing up, but never got to see it. I heard it featured Patti Boulaye, the famous British singer of Nigerian descent. But I do not think we ever had up to 300 cinemas in Nigeria, at any point in time. Some of those old movies should be brought back and shown on TV. 1 Like |

The sad thing about most of our films is that the producers do not explore other aspects of the film that could be used as money spinners. Sound tracks from films have been turned into best-selling albums or singles in different parts of the world, and have gone on to earn a lot of money, for the composers, songwriters, film producers etc. Even memorabilia and souvenirs depicting exciting scenes in the movie can be made & sold in movie halls, to earn extra revenue. |

Please someone should explain to me how the movie made over N290m. It means over 200,000 people watched this movie in the cinema, hmmm...seriously, do we have that kind of cinema culture in Nigeria. A friend that watched the movie said it was just her and her friend watching the movie that day.... Orikinla1: |
