The Comrade senator, Shehu Sani representing Kaduna central senatorial district may have just taught his counterpart, Senator Ben Murray Bruce of the Bayelsa senatorial district few common sense as a politician.

Senator Sani on his social media platform advised politicians, including colleagues who are into the business of giving “Man of the Year” award to avoid elective or public offices.

It would be recalled on January 1st, 2017, the common sense Senator, Ben Bruce announced the governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano has the Silverbird Man of the Year, 2016.


Mr. Bruce said governor Obiano got the highest number of votes among the four nominees, shortlisted for the prestigious award, for prudent management of resources and embarking on massive infrastructural development in the state.

But Mr Sani did not seem well with the Award programme as he said: “It will be noble for those in the business of giving out "Man of the year" award to avoid elected and appointed public office holders and consider giving it to the ordinary man or the suffering poor bearing the brunt of economic reforms or the multitude of the displaced in the North East”.

This is like the classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. What has Shehu Sani done for the common men he is representing in his own senatorial area?! If he has done something, what is the frequency? After all he is on the jumbo pay, that is contributing to crippling the economy, like every other senator and we haven't yet heard that in his love for the "common man" he has rejected the salary!!!

As far as I'm concerned, 'Silverbird Man of the Year Award' has lost its credibility.

Well, in my own opinion i would say the award be given out to any man, politicial class or otherwise who merits it.

I dont see why politicians shouldnt be given the awards

It should depend on the impact of the individual on the society.

When Tinubu received the same award from silverbird last year, we all acknowkedged the award as being merited based on how he influenced the 2015 general election.

If Shehu Sani shares different ideas about the award he should start issueing his own and let silverbird be.

There is no common sense in this senator shehu's assertion, it is clearly stated that the winner is the one who gets the highest vote. It's not Ben Bruce or anybody that just sits down somewhere and pick the winner.
