Who's Your Man Of The Year? by igbinigiejeff(m): 12:21pm On Jan 06, 2017
At year's end political scribblers have a habit of reviewing the year about to end and nominating a man of the year. This year i can't resist the temptation to do this ;There were both political and real earthquakes throughout 2016 and the year could turn out to be a turning point in Nigeria and world politics. With the vote in the United Kingdom to leave the European Union and the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, accompanied by electoral successes by far left or right insurgent parties in Europe, it looked as though something internationally and weighty significant was brewing.

We were not entirely immune from these forces though upset outcomes in local elections and an unexpectedly convincing win for the APC Party .Commentators were mostly hard pressed to link all of these political forces but if there is any common thread, it's that an-angry group of voters who mostly would not bother to cast their ballots did so and tilted it " Because of him " that lead to be predictable results for the APC in Edo state .

Politicians are indeed unique breeds , i do believe they should be clearly labelled with a picture of before and after attaining the elevated position in government and any public office . Hindsight is a good thing, it would have helped to see what happens to them: they row fat, with rosy cheeks, expanding girth, and slow gait. We should consider not fattening this breed for their good. They grow so large physically and psychologically that they become so deluded and rave in self-importance and grandiosity. A word of caution to all those responsible for their unhealthy political appointment, they get worse, they make broken promises, in fact they never mean what they say, they do not know how, it is the pathology of their ailment .To woo the citizens they offer sound bites and may give away a day’s meal, a small bag of rice for their loyalty.

It is really unhealthy for their wellbeing as any strip of conscience they have left, they trade for an ostentatious lifestyle. They are like a magpie gathering other people properties ,wealth and quality of life. They grow grotesquely huge on their greed and other people miseries while they play first families and lord of the manor. With their over inflated egos, they develop a contagious bad taste for gaucheness. Their transformation is never complete, when they write their past; No, they were never poor, in fact they had this much wealth prior to taking over office . They often protest and swear that they have always being civic minded, they took office solely to serve the people and not the other way round. I really do apologise for those good politicians who are doing their utmost best to change this image, but the 40% of the politicians are giving the 60% good politicians a bad name.

"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”— Franklin D. Roosevelt

We hear a lot about politicians but not enough about good men. People think of a politician as someone having one primary objective -- to get elected. The general view of good men, however, is of someone interested in the common good of constituents and not his own ego. An example of a good man is my man of the year, The Former Honourable Minister of State for Works, Engineer. Chris Ogiemwonyi , FNSE, KSC, JP, who stood by his ideals and does everything in his power to do, what he believes is right for his people and his country Nigeria .
