Against the backdrop of the crisis rocking the sector power in Nigeria, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu has subtly called for the split of the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing currently under the leadership of Babatunde Fashola.

The APC Chieftain made the remark while delivering a lecture at the National Defence College, Course 25, titled: “ Strategic Leadership: My Political Experiences.”


The event held in Lagos on Wednesday.

Tinubu stressed that nothing had been more germane to industrial growth in the last 1,000 years than constant supply of electricity.

Noting that he believes in the capacity of the Minister of Power under Fashola, the former Lagos State governor stressed that there are complex issues that must be resolved, hence if work-load on Fashola’s shoulders is overwhelming, it must be re-examined.

According to Tinubu, “We have enough gas to fire this country’s electricity but there are so many complex issues attached together that this government must remove.


“We must work harder. If the workload is too heavy, we must re-examine it. If the privatisation is given to incapable hands, we must revisit it; this cannot lock down our future.”

This is coming at a time Fashola had disclosed that lack of finance to pay for the supply of gas to power stations was responsible for the drop in electricity supply across the country.

First, the condemning of Buhari's economic policies and now this.
Something big is about to happen in Nigeria.

Tinubu laid the foundation for failed state government led power programmes with his ENRON IPP (remember the barges parked at Ijora?).

Fashola took over with Gas/Diesel IPPs which generated close to 10MW (as stipulated by law and above which the power must go into the National grid to be distributed as NEPA/PHCN deemed fit). Interestingly UBA and a couple of other organisations on the Marina generate similar capacity for their buildings.

Fashola was so excited that he made the 'any reasonable government will sort power out in 6 months' statement and the '“So, let no one say that he has no money to deliver power for the entire country. This is the limit to which the law allows us to do, but we have done this to make a statement that power can be generated. ‘’So, when they come with lies that power is impossible, you can tell them that we have power here; we make it possible.” statement.

If I was president and heard a 'much acclaimed' governor say this I will hurriedly appoint him to head the power sector.

Of course that is if I had no inkling that he was a prolific 'orator' with a penchant for 'alternative facts'.

when a government tried to save cost or tightening expenditure it increase recession.

you don't increase tax just like that. it has it consequence. increasing taxes causes inflation while tightening expenditure increase recession. weather you like it all not. money needs to be spend to go round. now civil servants people are saving cost and also tightening the little budget they have. all this will causes economic stiff. we need rich lavish spenders to save the economy.


every policy has it advantage and consequence. government should first look out for disadvantage and consequence before dishing out policies.
