Anti Corruption War: A Far Cry From Reality? by lacasera14(m): 11:08pm On Jan 26, 2017
Nigeria prides itself as the Giant of Africa, the economic power house and the most populous black race in the region but has been plagued over the years by series of corruption's, mismanagement, highhandedness, social and political grafts, poverty, unemployment, wars to mention but a few. The incumbent president Gen Muhamadu Buhari has polarised the beam of his presidential light on corruption alone. From his days as military head of state, he was well renowned for having a zero tolerance for corruption and it's relatives, even the most minute acts of corruption and corruption tendencies are met with the full fiery strokes of his anti grafts whips. The reason for this line of action and leadership path is plausible and credible enough. Corruption is the root, the offset, the trailblazer and the seed of all economic and financial woes that has bedeviled Nigerians this far. The General's agenda and change mantra couldn't have arrived at a better time. With so many corrupt public office holders serving jail terms across the country, the war has only just began and Nigerians are on an edge as to who next will be nailed to the wall by the anti graft agencies.

This war have been heavily criticized by stalwarts and party faithfuls from the chief opposition party (PDP) claiming the war wasn't a genuine one and that it has a vendetta and political witch hunt undertone. Since the inception of modern democracy this party has ruled Nigeria and being in the opposition is one side they find irritating and strange, hurling jibes and condemning every step taking by the president has been their major opposition war tool which is expected. The General, pretty thick skinned and undeterred has continued to reiterate his commitment to sanitizing and purging out the bad eggs in the system with the intend to restore moral virtues, active conscience and an egalitarian society for all.

The moral decay and rot is highly pervasive, it has eaten deep into the fabrics of the society, consciences have been seared with hot irons, motives of public offices have been thwarted and replaced with one agenda "my share of the national cake" which has caused sensitive and concerned Nigerians like I am to pause, ponder and pray that the fight be worth it in the end. Corruption is endemic in the country cutting across various facets of governance and the society at large, the international community fully aware of this? Has forewarned it's diplomats to be weary of Nigeria, one of the most corrupt nations of the world.

The president is focusing on fighting the corruption that has now become synonymous to the name "Nigeria" at the expense of other necessary developmental strides that the country is in dire need of, this war is sure going to halt if the opposition reclaim power and we'll all be back to the old days were public funds are being lavished and everyone keeps a sealed lip with their share of the cake which serves as the lip sealer. Will the purpose of this war ever come to fruition? Considering the depth of the rot. Has the damage gone past redemption? And the president is just in a wide goose chase? Hopefully the sands of time will field answers to this grave questions.
