Northern Governors promoting alien interest – ARG

The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) condemns strongly the proposal by the Northern Governors Forum (NGF) to open a register for immigrant Fulani herdsmen, whom the NGF itself identified as aliens and threats to Nigeria’s internal security. This is underscored by our observations that the NGF had in times past stridently denied culpability of these killers, rising to their defence many a times.

ARG also note that herdsmen currently constitute a huge threat, not only to lives, but also to food security in Southwest. Our people, who are largely smallholding farmers, cannot work at their full capacity, living at the mercy of cows and conniving policemen. This has aggravated the sweeping poverty in Nigeria and has displaced many of our people. Nigeria’s socioeconomic indices is clear that farmers, not herdsmen, should get higher priority from government, being a higher employer of labour, higher contributor to tax, FOREX earning and GDP.

ARG is therefore gravely concerned that state governors who swore to protect Nigeria’s constitution are the ones promoting alien interest. Or what logic is there in opening a register for agents of external aggression? It is shameful that the NGF could not even pretend and hide its readiness to sacrifice the rest of Nigeria for Fulani interest in its veiled reference to “national integration and cohesion” as the solution to herdsmen menace.

For example, Kaduna Governor, Nasir Elrufai, arrogantly and cold-heartedly declared on Aljazeera recently that killer herdsmen must be accommodated because Nigeria is signatory to ECOWAS’s treaty on trans-humane pastoralist protocol. We wonder if ECOWAS treaties are only obligatory where it concerns Fulani interest as there are other treaties that Nigeria has ignored.

Another example is the recent ban on car importation through land borders which Comptroller General Hameed Ali said was done to stop influx of illegal arms. If this policy could be implemented swiftly, at great economic loss to stakeholders and despite a senate order against it, why has nothing been done to disarm herdsmen who freely roam about with sophisticated weapons?

It is becoming increasingly clear that Nigerian authorities will not address the menaces of Fulani herdsmen as should be done in a sane country and NGF’s latest proposal therefore remains to be seen as a workable idea. This further shows that ethnocentric interest, rather than the Rule of Law, governs Nigeria.

ARG reiterate that the only workable solutions are to outlaw open grazing, arrest and prosecute arms-bearing herdsmen, and promote ranching systems. Farmers are paying for land use, why should herdsmen not? Conversely, if herdsmen are justified to bear arms, why should farmers not do same? ARG therefore hold the view that should herdsmen continue to get higher priority, our farmers would be right to resort to self-defence because where injustice becomes a law, resistance becomes a duty.

IGBOS knew there was a systematically planned Islamisation of the country through NNAMDI KANU's prophesies and started the resistance.

Yorubas cowardly claimed ignorance of the pace with which these herdsmen invade southern part of the country killing farmers when we are forced to embrace farming, what an irony!

The earlier the Yorubas realized ibos are far much smarter than them and submit themselves, the better for them.
They voted against GEJ because of ibos ,now the north is beginning to show that all they care for is power to maintain the supremacy of the Fulanis.

I just hope this kids on this forum learns from the mistakes of Tinubu and co.

which round table?

The one GEJ organized with a Yoruba man as the head and the same Yorubas made a mess of it?

Yorubas really hurt the entire southern part of the country that it will be easy for a cow to pass through the the eye than the SS and SE to have confidence in them again.

Who do you think will convern a credible roundtable?

Osibanjo? Fulanis?
Still praying the youths of SW realizes their present leaders are only after their interest, not theirs!

They need a radical change or they should keep smoking Indian hemp

Abeg shut up!
Why must everything revolve around Igbo this and Igbo that; and must always be viewed from your clannish egocentric tribal perspective?

And for goodness the sake, the Fulani herdsmen problem is fundamentally an economic one, a clash between agriculturalists and pastoralists for land to farm or graze cattle; pls stop interpreting it as a religious issue - because it is not.

However, if you still insist; then I'll have to agree that the plan to Islamise the country will be accomplished after Nnamdi Kanu accepts Islam and is installed as the chief imam of Imo State - hope you are happy now.

You are going off topic, pls address the issues I have raised.

However, if you must know; pls stay clear of those Bororo herdsmen; they are hardcore very fierce warlike, bad ass Ninja breed of the nomadic Fulani; they respect no borders and transverse the entire West and parts of North Africa (that is why Buhari and others are telling you guys that some them are not from Nigeria but to no avail); you don't want to mess with them because, if provoked they make a formidable opponent to face in the bush and compare to the ordinary Fulani like a bee is to a wasp/hornet - a word is enough for the wise.

The clashes have been happening throughout the country and being managed for what it is, i.e. an economic clash for farming/grazing land between farmers and herders; and not a religious or ethnic war that some enemies of peace are trying to turn it into.

For most of the time when these pastoralists stray into farmlands they are made to pay for the damage through their leadership, the Ardo or LGA and the matter is settled; however, the reverse had increasingly not been the case, when they in turn have been taken advantage of e.g. cattle rustling or being duped etc; which has resulted to them taking the law into their own hands (out of frustration) in line with their culture of extracting revenge.

If these conflicts, particularly in the south, were being properly managed at local levels by local leaders from both sides, a lot of these problems would have been resolved unnoticed without the southern media further compounding it through unnecessary distortion and careless reporting.

Yes, the government is obligated to guarantee protection to its citizen; however, no government (not even sophisticated America) can guarantee absolute security.

Besides, these killings have been going on right throughout GEJ's tenure, including Boko Haram (where thousands were being left unprotected to be slaughtered on daily basis) while huge budgeted sums for security were being shared for his re-election; why then has public/southern media response suddenly taken to a new heightened dimension under Buhari, whose govt seems to be doing far much better security-wise?

Unfortunately, when it comes to such clashes, the nomadic herdsman along with their bush craft will always have an advantage over local settlements who present soft easy fixed sitting targets to their much mobile crafty adversaries.

That is why they often melt away into the bush and the police cannot find or catch them - not necessarily because the police don't want to - do not forget, the police or law enforcement agents are not made of one tribe or adherents of a single religion; some of us simply refuse to think for ourselves and love to hate blindly.

The key to ending the violence is justice for all; anyone involved is apprehended and punished without fear or favour; while political and religious leaders eschew from hate speeches and instead preaching peace and tolerance to their follwers.

Apparently, you did not read anything I wrote, particularly the 2nd paragraph, pertaining to local community leaders from both sides.

PLs explain where or how I may have defended ongoing atrocities?

You called for an end to the blame game, having earlier identified some problem areas in the SW with these Bororo herders; yet in the same breath seem to be shifting the blame to northern governors - pls explain how it is their responsibility to deal with what is going on in another man's state; where are those SW governors, what are they doing, sleeping or what - have you also forgotten that many of these Bororo ppl come from beyond the shores of this country, how should northern governors be responsible for them?

The key to the matter, is to first understand the problem and approach it correctly, with involvement of all stakeholders, especially at local level - where any perpetrator is brought to book, therefore bringing a sense of equity and justice to all.

If only the southerns and christians can look and see between the line the agenda the fulani's have for them, them will have no any other option than to divide this nation as soon as possible. Their agenda is KILL ALL INFIDELS AND ALL OTHER TRIBES, SO THAT WE CAN MAKE ONE AND ONLY A COUNTRY WITH ONE TRIBE IN THE WORLD. Instruction has passed to other fulanis in the other west africa countries to come and fight for their citizenship in nigeria. This is the grand plan against southerns and christians. That is the most reason why our state and federal government government have never intervene in all their killings. But rather go after anybody that instruct people to defend theirself their attack.

A sure and better solution is modern way of farming. Normadic farming hasn't placed Nigeria as one of the beef and diary producers of the world. South Africa is in the world chart ,without our avoidable problems, by using modern method of ranching that employs many young people that are proud of their jobs unlike what we have here... How many of us see our cattle herding as employment? When will our herdsmen embrace modernity? Why is our govt indifferent?

A typical Nigerian that will always shy away from the truth.
Herdsmen just killed more than 900 Christians in Kaduna within the space of two months and you are calling it an economic problem?.
I have few questions for you
1. Who owns the land that these Fulani herdsmen invades that leads to all this killings?
2.What is the nationality of these herdsmen?
3. Why is it that these herdsmen moves mainly at night and attacks by night too?
4. Why is that aftermath of these herdsmen attacks, each time the Christians wants to retaliate, the Nigerian army will either Arrest them or even kill them?
5. How many Muslim communities have been attacked by these herdsmen?
If you can sincerely answer this questions and still believed there's no Islamic agenda by Buhari administration, then either your a kid, a Zombie ,an Afonja or all of the above
