2BABA, HIS PROTEST AND THE AILING PRESIDENT
So I was discussing with some colleagues about the happenings in our dear country Nigeria, recently. How we have lived with hope that Nigeria will become better someday while we went about our daily activities without having to discuss the price of foodstuff or how dollar has affected even the price of vegetable, how we have all suddenly become acquainted with the economics of scale of preference and cost cutting. How the word ‘CHANGE’ is now almost a curse word. The discussion started taking a different turn as we started talking about how Nigeria is over ripe for a revolution. We then realised the several protests we have had in the past has always been politically instigated and motivated. But then, someone spoke up. He came with a #ONEVOICE protest initiative. Surprisingly, it became another debate topic in the society. The topic was sharing spotlight with the rumoured death of our president and his hypothetical arrival.
Now, this is where I am headed. 2baba for reason best known to him withdrew from the protest and this coincided with the failed arrival of our president. Many Nigerians have come out to express and analyse how 2Baba suddenly fell from being a legend to a coward in less than 24hrs.
2Baba may not have done the right thing by withdrawing from the protest. But before you call him a coward, you must remember that same coward was the one who came up with such brilliant idea that lot of you is taking glory for now. ‘He struck the first match of a revolution in Nigeria.’ He may not be as hard-hearted activist like Fela, Saro-Wiwa, Nnamdi Kanu, etc who are not scared for their lives like the average Nigerian is, but at least he has started something you couldn’t do.
The presidency since then has not agreed on the state of our president’s health not to even clear the air on his rumoured death or an actual date of his arrival. Yet, same president once suggested the impeachment of Late President Yaradua when he was in similar situation as him now.
Many of us never see the good in others because we feel we possess such a level of unquestionable integrity. Don’t be fooled, it’s an abnormality if you are the one who is always right all the time. Before you criticize and attempt to bring down others for their inadequacies and failures, especially your leaders, don’t forget that Karma never forgets, that’s if she allows you attain such height. Karma is so diligent to serve you with same plate you washed for others.
Before you call 2Baba a coward, remember that many of us have come up with brilliant plans of what to do this year, we have written goals and sometimes brag about them. Sometimes we think other people won’t remember. Amazingly, same people are waiting to ask you later how far about your plans. Don’t be the coward by then. It isn’t enough to draw up plans; you must strive to follow it through.
Before you call 2Baba a coward, remember that one day a big task will be abandoned by someone, hope you won’t be the coward that will reject taking it up then.
Before you give up on your dreams, career, family, friends, and leaders tomorrow, don’t forget you have called 2Baba a coward today. The blessing of tomorrow is only in the good deeds sown today.
