A friend of mine says he has taught many Hausas elementary English just to get them through the recruitment process into the army.

Once they get in, Hausa becomes the lingua franca because the average Hausa uneducated person finds English too difficult to grasp. Our army has gradually been taken over by them but we hope and pray that this trend will change by enabling equal opportunity for all irrespective of where the individual comes from, Nigeria will be great without tribalism.

There is also a top ranking uniformed officer from same region who seriously embarrassed security services in Nigeria. He didn't even know the website of the organisation in which he held a very big stake. Or is he Hausa?

Meanwhile, he is not an ordinary recruit, but a very senior officer, and most likely than not, a university graduate.
