GOV. WIKE EXPRESSES SUPPORT FOR SPEEDY DISPENSATION OF JUSTICE

......as National Industrial Court is set to return to Port Harcourt........

The Governor of Rivers State, Chief Bar. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has expressed to support speedy dispensation of justice.
The governor made this expression today at the venue of the ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony of the construction of the National Industrial Court complex.

The Governor noted that 90% of industrial case in Bayelsa are from Rivers state, hence the need to ensure that the NIC is returned to the state to meet the need of Rivers people. He further that no Nation can develop without an efficient judicial system to meet the needs of the people.

In his welcome address, the Hon. Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Rivers State, Mr. Emmanuel Aguma SAN, explained that the Industrial Court left Rivers State to Bayelsa State due to the closure of the courts by the previous administration. He equally noted that the court gave as a condition for it's return the provision of accommodation which governor has set in motion. Hon. Aguma expressed gratitude to the governor for listening to the courts plight by embarking of the project.

The Chief Judge of Rivers, Justice (Mrs.) Iyayi Laminkara who was the Chairman of the occasion thanked the Governor for his support to the judiciary.

The president of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo OFR, who performed the ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony, applauded Governor Wike as the first Governor to initiate a project of this nature aimed solely to accomodate the National Industrial Court. He also noted that the Governors decision to embark on such project as to build a premises for the National Industrial Court is part of service to Rivers people since they are the people that would suffer if the court is not in the state, as there there are about 750 cases from Rivers State presently in the court and they have had to be allocated to Bayelsa and Imo states due to the absence of the NIC.

The high point of the event was the ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony as performed by the President of National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo OFR and the official hand over of the Certificate Of Occupancy by the Governor to the National Industrial Court.
