Ken4agent:
Soil pH is an excellent indicator of the suitability of a soil for plant growth. For most crops, pH of 6 to 7.5 is optimal. Soil pH levels that are too high or too low lead to a deficiency of many nutrients, decline in microbial activity, decrease in crop yields, and deterioration of soil health. For example, soil pH values below 5.5 and between 7.5 and 8.5 limit the availability of phosphate for plants. Four major management practices that increase the availability of phosphate for plants are:

1. Liming acid soils to increase pH to between 6.5 and 7.0.
2. Applying small amounts of phosphorus fertilizer frequently rather than a large amount at one time.
3. Banding or injecting the source of the phosphorus (manure and/or fertilizer) into the soil to reduce the contact between the soil and the phosphorus.
4. Applying phosphorus fertilizer near crop rows, where roots are most active. Nitrogen cycling is inhibited by low pH.

The effectiveness and degradation of herbicides and insecticides and the solubility of heavy metals are dependent on the soil pH. Some diseases thrive in alkaline or acidic soils. The effectiveness and potential carryover of certain herbicides is also impacted by soil pH.

Good point though I wouldn't recommend getting a pH above 6.5 and 7.0. Not to mention that there's a reason why most soil testers have a range between 3.0 and 8.0, here's a link for comparison https://bumpercroptimes.com/best-soil-ph-testers/. Also, it is worth mentioning that applying insecticides can shift pH in some way too.

Ascertaining your farm soil fertility comes with huge benefit. What you stand to gain is more than the cost. Before investing your cash in that soil, be sure the soil still have all it takes to grow a crop.

Do you know your farm soil fertility and farm soil topography is a big deal in crop production.
Also, if your farm top soil Heterogeneous, then it simp!y indicates that different type of crop will grow on specific part of the soil and if it is Homogeneous then one single type of crop can be cultivated on the soil.

Our soil test report & Recommendations will explain in details
Cheers!!

Are you aware that your farm soil being Heterogeneous has lot of implication on choice of crop to plant? And amelioration measure to adopt?

Get us to do a physical examination of your farm soil and demonstrate to you the merit of knowing the physical and Biological characteristics of your farm soil

Detail on the 2above Qs will be explain in our subsequent post
Cheers!
Re: Why Soil Analysis On That Farmland?? by Ken4agent(m): 8:40pm On Jun 24, 2020
Have you confirm the fertility if that soil before you invest your cash, effort and time into it?.........do not use a top-down approach. I mean to say some foks will plant on that soil without ascertaining the soil fertility....so after the season and they experience a very poor yield, they will then consider doing a soil test of the soil.

Nevertheless, whether you plant then do the soil test later or you do it before you plant...it all good you know your soil fertility.
But doing it before planting will save you lot of avoidable expenses.

How is the rain in your farm area?
Cheers

Are yu aware that the type of spacing you adopt when planting your sucker is base on how good yur soil fertility is. Where yur soil is lacking lot of NPK then spacing out will be a huge advantage to your crop.

Also the type of crop that has been cultivated on the farm land before yu acquire the farm land can give a clue to the level of fertility of the soil. This means if a crop known to be heavy feeder has been cultivated on that farmland for over 6yrs back2back without practising shifting cultivation, then we can assure yur it paramount yu test for level of nutrient left in the soil before planting

Cheers!!

We help you ascertain the fertility of that farm land and figure out the reason your farm soil is not giving the desire yield.

Do a soil test with kenfarm.......as cheap as the cost is, the negative effect of just investing on a farm land yu do not know it fertility is enormous.

Let help you do a physical examination of your soil or help test for your soil fertility b4 yu invest in that farm land. All the environmental and Biological factors farmers are contending with this days, it will be erroneous for you to invest in the farm land without a knowledge of the land History or a knowledge of the soil fertility.

What it will cost you to have a full knowledge of the farm soil is not up to 2% of what you will lose in your investment if you do not have a knowledge if the farm History/fertility

Invest wisely today!!!!!

A soil’s ability to react with positively charged molecules is called it’s cation exchange capacity (CEC). The higher the CEC, the higher the negative charge of the soil and the more cations that can be held.
The most common soil cations are: calcium, magnesium, potassium, ammonium, hydrogen and sodium.

Generally soils with more clay silt and organic matter have a higher CEC and the CEC decreases with increased sand content.
The most basic thing to remember is CEC indicates how well your soil will hold onto anything, including nutrients and water.

Below are some practical implications of your soil’s Cation Exchange Capacity:

Low CEC soils need quick but frequent watering, while high CEC soils need slow water applied less often.

When applying fertilizers and soil conditioners to low CEC soil, it is best to apply a little at a time to avoid the risk of leaching them through the soil and into ground water.

When applying nutrients to high CEC soils it is best to incorporate them, if they are placed on the surface they are more prone to run-off due to the slow infiltration rate.

The lower the CEC of a soil, the faster the soil pH will decrease with time.
Soils with a low CEC are more likely to develop deficiencies in calcium, potassium & magnesium.

Because they are resistant to leaching, high-CEC soils generally do not need to be limed as frequently as low-CEC soils; but when they do become acid and require liming, higher lime rates are needed to reach optimum pH.

It only a reliable soil fertility testing that can reveal the CEC value of your farm soil. The implication of this is that to make a concise and logical decision on your farm crop/soil management, you need to have adequate knowledge of the farm soil fertility

Checking for your farm soil fertility is the first step to take before investing on this farm land. If you plan cultivating that farm land commercially next yr, it will be a good decision to check for the soil fertility before next season.

Benefits of knowing your soil fertility
1. You will know what nutrient is lacking
2. Qty of fertilizer to apply to attain critical level, type of fertilizer to apply and what method to adopt
3. You know if the nutrient available will be released to the crop for uptake or the nutrient are available but trap
4. You know what type of crop is suitable for your farm
5. You will know whether or not your farm soil has sufficient ohanic mater
6. You will be able to predict yield
6. You will be able to know your soil PH and where the PH does not support the crop you want to plant, then we would be able to recommend amelioration
7. You will be able to know whether your farm soil is homogeneous or heterogeneous in nature at the top soil and down the profile

Kenfarm can keep listing the benefit as the benefit are so numerous

Hire our services today and be convinced on all the above listed benefit

Are you awere that one of the numerous functions of micro nutrient in your soil is to catalyzes the enzymatic reactions which indirectly leads to food production in plant and subsequently leads to plant growth.

So if your farm crop is experiencing stunted growth, then it simply means one of the parameters amongst others you need to check is the LEVEL OF MICRO NUTRIENT in your farm soil

This is the reason scientifically checking for your farm soil fertility is paramount.

Are yu aware that:
1. The colour of your farm soil down the profile has implication of your farm soil fertility and yield?

2. The colour of the top soil gives you a clue as to which crop you can cultivate. Meaning that if your top soil is Heterogeneous, then it selective of the type of crop you can plant on it

3. Level of Nitrogen is the farm soil indicate the level of organic mater in your farm soil. But do not indicate the % of organic matter

4. The planting history of your farm gives you an insight into whether or not the land whort investing your million on

Do a soil test with kenfarm and the solution to all these will be revealed by our Questionnaire that we/ you fill in as you collect the farm soil for fertility testing.

The picture above is a farm soil in the SW we collected during the week and soil at the moment undergoing fertility testing
Do it right in the coming season and expect a much better different result

The best time to ascertian the fertility of your farm soil is now. The BAP is to confirm that your farm soil has the nutrient peculiar to the growth of the crop of your interest.

Yes your farm soil may have been left to fallow for years but does it have the exert nutrient and properties to support the crop you intend to cultivate?

Do it differently this season and get a different positive result.

MERITS OF SOIL FERTILITY TESTING

1. It enable farmer identify the level of nutrient in the soil. The soil test will also indicate if the nutrient available can be taken up by the plant or it available and yet can not be taken up by plant for use

2. It indicates the soil PH. Every crop has a soil pH in which it can strive. If a crop that strive in alkaline soil is planted on acidic soil, then mortality rate will increase

3. It indicates the soil macro nutrient and micro nutrient. Tree crops need lot of macro nutrient. Palm tree for example needs Mg in abundance. Mg is responsible for the red colour of the fruit. How reddish your palm fruit is determine largely the market value it will command because Mg determines the quality of your oil

4. It indicates the physical chrematistics of the farm soil. Physical characteristics of the farm soil has effect on the farm management style, fruit yield and mortality rate.

5. It indicates the Quantity of fertilizer to apply to each palm tree, the type of fertilizer and the method of application to adopt. The level of the nutrient will indicate all these. Over application of fertilizer and under application of fertilizer has a negative effect on the crop.

6. It indicate your farm soil textural class. Planting crop on the wrong adapted textural class can lead to crop mortality.

Thus, if a soil test was not don on your farm soil before commencing planting operations, it not late to ascertain the farm soil fertility by conducting a soil test. Am suggesting this base on the mortality you said was experienced on the farm recently. Nevertheless, it is still left to farm owner to decide on doing a soil test or not

Cheers!!
