Yet, this is barely upto a billion dollars, far less than Facebook's budget for research or apple's budget for marketing. If this is what the acclaimed no.1 state in 9ja can do, then 9ja is in serious trouble. If out of a population of over 20 million, it is $0.7billion you can show for it, when South Africa generates about #29 trillion (naira) or 100 * Lagos IGR ($70bn) with about 55 million people, then 9ja is on a long thing. Not surprised sha, when the entire country's budget is barely #7trillion (1/5th of South Africa's #34trillion)

Lagos IGR is higher because Lagos cheats other states of the federation.

Oil companies like ExxonMobil pay taxes to Lagos state. In reality, those taxes should be paid to Akwa Ibom State. So Lagos is stealing from Akwa Ibom. Governor Udom Emmanuel should do all in his powers to force ExxonMobil to return its corporate base to Akwa Ibom, so that the state can benefit from EXxonMobil's taxes, instead of allowing Lagos to continue to steal Akwa Ibom tax monies. Even if ExxonMobil continue to locate in Lagos, they should pay taxes to Akwa Ibom, not to Lagos state government.

Lagos cheats other riverine/littoral states out of import revenue. Try to import anything and have it shipped to Port Harcourt for example, and your shipment will be confiscated in Lagos and you'll be told to come to Lagos and clear it. Lagos, through Yoruba dominated federal government, have stiffled the ability of other reverine states to have a functional seaport. Case in point is the Calabar EPZ which the Yorubas have gone out of their way to make sure it remains dead. The same story is with the proposed IBAKA seaport in Akwa Ibom. Lagos is afraid of competition because the Badagry seaport was only conceptualized soon after Governor Akpabio at the time, appeared to be serious about IBAKA seaport project, which the Yorubas see as a threat.

They say ohh......seaport establishment is under the purview of the Federal Government......which they control. IBAKA project was forcefully taken over by the federal government, essentially killing the project to make way for the new seaport in Badary in Lagos. The fact is that the Yorubas and Lagos state are afraid of allowing any functioning seaport in Niger-Delta because the Igbos who import 80% of goods into Nigeria would abandon Lagos and instead use seaports in Niger-Delta because it would be closer, cheaper, and more efficient for business.

Sadly, Lagos state continues to unfairly and unjustly benefit from everyone coming to Lagos to clear their imports (containers, cars, etc) because you'd be paying a Yoruba taxi driver, a Yoruba hotel owner, a Yoruba-owned clearing agent/company, a Yoruba-owned trucking company, and so on. Lagos state, just like the Nigerian nation, is a huge fraud and it is structured to survive on the backs of minorities in the South-South Niger Delta area.

Lagos is a fraud that cheats other states of their tax monies. Let ExxonMobil, for instance, stay in Lagos, but let the company pay monthly taxes to AKwa Ibom. Do that and see the Yorubas shout NOOOOO!!!! Lagos state IGR is a mirage. It is a bogus number that only exist because Lagos cheats other states in the country by stealing other peoples's taxes and resources, ofcourse through federick luggard's contraption where Niger Delta minorities are forced to belong to Nigeria where majority tribes steal their resources.

It therefore behooves Niger-Deltans to bond together with the Igbos (SS and SE) to extricate themselves from a country and ethnic groups (who claim majority statuses) that only steals from them. I am not calling for Biafra (not that it is a bad idea). I am only saying that it will be more beneficial for Niger-Deltans to join forces with the Igbos for economic emancipation and integration. The fact is that SE/Igbos are stronger and more industrous. The Igbos make business happen in Nigeria, unlike the other regions/ethnic groups that are viable by locating every project in Lagos or relevant out of pervasive entrangement in, or control of, the federal government. Forming alliances of any sort can only make SS/Niger Delta stronger and more mutally beneficial.

Lagos state government is a fraud. Lagos IGR is a mirage! Nigeria is a disgraceful contraption!

U wrote all this nonsense yet the long write-up did not garner a single LIKE. Now clap for yourself and have an afonja filled masquerade dream cool

Why are you people like this Na... Haba. They said Lagos states internally Generated revenue is more than 33 states combined. You are still talking about Lagos not surviving without allocation.

A certain man bought a dog that could swim. The man happily called his friends to check out his amazing dog. He took them to a Riverside where he would showcase his swimming dog. The dog swam to and fro amazingly but he man's friends didn't applaud the dog. They all said; your dog can swim but it can't walk on water.

are you a Nigerian at all.. Lagos survived without allocations for over 8months during obasanjo's tenure because Jagaban had issues with him. OBJ refused to approve allocation to lagos state for over 8months and they f**kin survived it

The fact that Lagos is ahead of others doesn't mean that she souldn'tbe questioned. The biggest room ever is the room for improvement.

clever in your mind. In Nigeria we spend naira not dollars so your comparison is meaningless. Ever heard of PPP ? How much is a haircut, rent petrol or a meal in those places compared to Nigeria?

You be clown I swear. So there's no exchange rate for Rand or Naira abi. Yeye de smell. If you think because you spend naira, it is naira you will use to buy goods that you import, then you are on a long thing (for instance). The essence of converting to a standard currency is to show you in comparative terms what your so called billions of naira is worth. It means if someone from South Africa or Yankee, brings in US$0.7 billion, he will be able to exchange it for the entire Lagos IGR that you are shouting about here, meanwhile that value is a tiny fraction of what he can buy in his own country, doesnt that tell you something.

If you even decide to go nominal, and divide the entire 300 billion naira among 20 million Lagosians, that comes to 15,000 naira for each person, per year. How much is that for goodness sakes in nominal terms? So a family of four children will receive barely #90,000 (including the parents) in a year. You see how poor 9ja is, if Lagos is the biggest state. Keep comparing yourself with failed states or countries (instead of better countries), you will never develop because of that.

No it does not quite work like that that is why there is something called purchasing power parity. Yes the budget is far from adequate and that is why we are a poor country. No one is disputing that. The exchange rate though is wholly inappropriate for making comparisons such as you made there.
Things do not cost the same in South Africa to Nigeria when you use exchange rate as the main Yardstick.

Once again how much is a litre of petrol in Nigeria compared to £1. 10 in the UK which is close to 600 Naira or more. It is a meaningless comparison. How much is a single train journey on the London underground or a 2 mile taxi journey in London.
Yes we are indeed poor no argument but exchange rate is wholly irrelevant and meaningless.
Lagos has been improving incrementally since 1999 and will continue to do so.
Yes Okada riders and market women send their children to University just like Senators and eventually their kids do make breakthroughs. Some families live on 100000 a month and others on 20000. It is no predictor of how their kids will turn out
Rather than making childish comparisons tell us how to get to the next level.Do you have anything constructive to offer?

This is an eye opener to the FG

kudos to Lagos for taxing anything taxable, even a qiosk owner in computer village is paying tax not to talk about all the multinationals that have their head offices in Lagos.

if Ekiti or osun want to Generate IGR who will they task ? the famers or the hunters?

if bayelsa , delta want to Generate IGR who will they task ? fishermen or militants?

what am saying is every fire power of a country is concentrated in Lagos alone which is not good for massive and even development among the states of the federation.

Lagos and Ogun state having industries and head offices coupled with massive migration from other states make them at the advantage and nothing special.

FG should give attentions to other states and by then we won't be having 20millon people in Lagos and 1million ,or even 500 thousands from osun and ekiti respectively.
Exactly, and who will government of imo, ebonyi and enugu tax?..palm wine tappers and drinkers?.There is nothing in Lagos that is not in rivers state. There so many reasons why lagos is 20million and like 1million or 500 000 from ebonyi and enugu respectively!

People repeat this ignorant rubbish endlessly .The location of corporate headquarters is fiscally neutral. States do not tax corporate profit. The IGR in 1999 was 6 billion before Tinubu took over. We're there no multinationals then?.States can only tax workers and not COMPANIES . Companies especially oil companies have alway paid PAYE for workers and tax for tenement and land use and that did not start in 1999. If a company's main business is outside Lagos then the bulk of its workers will pay PAYE outside Lagos .Why has that not transformed oil producing states' IGR ?

Let us stop this headquarter myth. . Lagos has figured out how to extract
About 50
naira daily on average from its working people

Before the return to democratic government in May 1999, Lagos state IGR was less than N1b monthly and Tinubu took it to N10b monthly by the time his tenure ended in May 2007.

The FCT remain the few LGs on the island till 1991. Otherwise can you mention any FG project outside the FCT area that they did not do in other states
