Against the backdrop of the humanitarian crisis in the North East, and the injustices the people of the South-East (Ndi-igbo) which has resulted into crisis and agitations, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Odogwu nwoke n'obodo Enugwu, reasoned that Nigerians have failed to learn from the Biafra civil war. Speaking in Abuja, the deputy senate President said Nigeria ought to build her internal capacity and mechanisms for managing such situations, noting that after going through armed conflict and humanitarian crises, Nigeria ought to have re-enforced her capacity to solidify peace and handle humanitarian challenges. He, gave assurances that the National Assembly was dedicated in assisting parts of the country facing humanitarian challenges. According to Ekweremadu, “As a young boy in the 1960s, I experienced firsthand the humanitarian crisis in the eastern part of Nigeria occasioned by the Biafran war. Then, we had to depend on international donors and humanitarian organisations. “Unfortunately, from the developments so far in the North East, it is clear that, like virtually every other thing in our history, we did not learn from that experience. We remain heavily dependent on humanitarian organisations and donors. “If we had learnt from the experience of the civil war, Nigeria would have needed little or no external support. We would have built our internal capacity and mechanisms to manage the North East situation." http://igbobia.com/?q=nigeria-cannever-learn-from-the-civil-war-ike-ekweremmadu.html

How can we learn, when we have quota system generals ruling the country and the south west supporting ineffective leadership. This is like expecting a camel to drive a fast car. 1 Like 1 Share |

It is you and your political brethren who have remained in the system since God knows when that have refused to learn from the civil war. Who else are you blaming, we the youth? 4 Likes 1 Share |

While you identify with the truths in the information and contents from this Moniker...don't forget the source is Igbobia.com...the Pan-Igbo forum that reveals real facts about and discusses the Igbo people. A friend of mine introduced me to the site as soon as it was launched a month ago, and ever since, I fell in love with it for the unique knowledge and unknown facts it springs. Of course, anyone can register there...it is fast rising |

BankeSmalls: Your whole existence is predicated on hating the yoruba. Your existence is so meaningless that even your moniker shows you're content with being a clone of a small yoruba girl. May you always remain under the torment, bondage and servitude the Yoruba placed on your lineage. Amen See what a sensible person posted on this issue. Will you die if you upgrade your reasoning to a tenth of his own? thesicilian: God bless you real good. The problem is the political class made up of elites from ALL tribes just like you pointed out. Ekwerremadu is only playing to the gallery like all politicians do 5 Likes 1 Share |

shukuokukobambi: You spoke my mind...... Talk is easy if given the chance I can talk till kingdom come...... but what exactly has ike ekweremadu done for the people of the north east and nigeria in general..... he spoke of his experience during the civil war....now that he is in a position to actual do something.... all we get is rhetoric with little or no action And the worst thing is that some Nigerians that are so blinded by ethnic and religious sentiment will storm the thread praising ike like he is the best thing that has happen to nigeria since agege bread God save this country..... 1 Like |
