What is the hardest thing(s) about raising children in Nigeria?

The hardest thing about raising children in Nigeria is our morbidly extreme disciplinary measures and absolute transfer of culture to the children.

Let me explain,

Extreme discipline makes children timid and lack self confidence. Most adults suffer from the aftereffects of this till date.

When you don't allow the child to have their own opinions or think for themselves, they'll pretty much drag their feet through life like zombies. They can't question or challenge anything without being punished for being “disobedient”. They can't live the life they were born to live but the life their parents have defined for them.

The result: They'll lack creativity & innovation and constantly wait for “momma & poppa” to come to tell them what to do. They also will make poor leaders. Does this sound familiar? Our dumb Nigerian leaders.

Transfer of cultures to children is simply the raising of kids with literally a gun to their heads threatening them to follow in your footsteps or be shot dead! This can be observed in areas of: Religion, tribal sentiments, sexual orientation, religious denominations, career choices, spousal choices etc.

Have you looked around our environment? Very few new ideas are being developed (& recycled). In fact, we’re slowly creeping back to the stone age.

Our parents are the #1 teachers we meet in this life & their success/failure determines to a large extent what our progress in life will be like. & to be sincere, many of them innocently do a terrible parenting job!![quotes
