There are 3 major reasons why Africa is undeveloped. Unfortunately, unless we deliberately acknowledge the factors and turn them into our favour, we will remain as we are. Each of these factors alone may not be sufficient a reason, but a combination of the factors push the odds against Africans 1. Lack of Snowy Winter Seasons: -Winter forces people to cooperate together (you need your neighbor to survive. -Winter forces people to specialize (making of tools, winter clothes, conveniences) -Winter forces people to learn from each other Unlike In Africa where -A man can survive alone: the weather is too conducive -You can be a Jack of all trades because you don't need to much to survive Have you noticed that most countries with snow are developed? Have you noticed that the predominant colours of clothes in the developed world are dull and plane grey, black, brown. Go to any African gathering and you will find all the bright rainbow colours. This is a reflection of a culture of "show offs" rather than functionality. 2. Lack of Cultural and Language Homogeneity -A country that is faily homogeneous in language and culture will be more likely to unite to face a common treath. -They will most likely choose representatives and leaders based on competence rather than by religion or tribe or other sentiments. Nigeria has over 200 tribes and language dialects. Cameroon has up to 250 different language, Ghana over 50. Why should they unite? Why shouldn't they vote leaders according to tribal sentiments. Most countries that are developed are fairly homogenous. Malaysia is a tropical country but, they are fairly homogeneous. Over 90% speak Malay and over 98% Muslims. How about France, Germany, UK ,USA and to some extent China etc It is difficult for an external country to succeed in the use of divide and rule strategy to mess up the country. Exception is the Eskimos, whose lack of population and threat from neighbouring tribes keep them isolated. 3. Lack of Competition from Neigbours When your neighbors are no better than you, you relax. If Cameroon acquires a Submarine today, I can bet it with you that within 18 months, Nigeria will acquire her own. Britain was the first to use armoured tank in the first world war, but by second ww, all the European countries have built their own. Can we change these three factors? No! But can we make sure they do not limit us? Yes! Of course there are other factors, but these are major God bless Africa 5 Likes 1 Share |

Have you noticed that most countries with snow are developed?If it is by snow, Antarctica should be the most developed continent! And Australia continent won't experience any development at all cos that is the only continent with no snow cover or glacier. 4 Likes |

3. Lack of Competition from NeigboursUSA is better than Mexico and Canada, but these two latter countries are relaxing. How come? Or better rephrased, Mexico and Canada aren't competing with the US, how come US isn't relaxing? quoting Otto Von Bismarck: " The Americans are truly a lucky people. They are bordered to the north and south by weak neighbors and to the east and west by fish". |

Excuse for mediocrity...... it's a shame on us that Africa is not sustainable enough to self produce technological product. It's painful and disgraceful. Africans has played second fiddle for so long even her inhabitants is not left out ( me inclusive) |

Tell them about science and they'll be telling you about religion Tell them about innovation and they'll look at you like you dropped from space Tell them about equipping our hospitals they'll tell you we don't really need them while they go abroad Tell them about the bad electricity system, they'll be telling you how some people have spent a lot in reviving the sector Our leaders are not the best people we have, but by virtue of providence, they found their way there... Nukilia: Its more of a culture of laziness and inability to think as a unit that has destroyed us. Guess how many Britons fought to conquer Africa. They were less than 2000 at any time. But they were able to use divide and conquer strategy. Use your neighbor against you. India is developed but religious. Only God knows how many idols are worshiped. Its not religion. The foundation of the Wests technological development occurred when they were completely theistic and religious..... Like in USA "in God we trust" . 4 Likes |

Nukilia:it's a pleasure tapping from your wisdom sir! Almost every European country was at a time being ruled by King/Queen, Emperor/Empress, Czar/Czarina et al. Revolution liberated them from these absolute powers. Though the revolutions came in different form and different times. We all have the power to replace the leaders, many times the replacement is always worse than the replaced. There were times successful coups were plotted in Africa against the leaders, the coup plotters most times become worse than their predecessors after getting to the the throne. The followers in the Democracy practicing country have allowed their leaders to rule them through various means of manipulations; "divide and rule", cash, tribalism, religious sentiment et al. Only fools can be manipulated by those means. Only a bull can be lead to the slab to be butchered due to its stupidity by the butcher, no butcher dears leading a buffalo to a slab like a bull 1 Like |

Tolexander: They don't have to be Physical neighbors but neighbors who can influence. See the amount of technology developed during the Ww1 and Ww2. All the countries that directly participated learnt a lot of technology from each other. I am not promoting war o. But people learn more in times of hardship involving life and death |
