The so-called Arewa Forum needs to wake up and take the bull by the horn, by ensuring that their governors are made accountable to their subjects. This attitude of always contesting issues with the south, is not the problem of the nation. They (the north) are the problem of the nation. Look at what is happening in Jos; that is the situation of Nigeria today.

It is good to point fingers. Since when did accountability becomes the norm at home?

Yobe State: Governor Gaidam steals the people blind

Before the death of Governor Mamman Ali almost a year ago, most people did not know Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, his Deputy who would then assume the office of governor. Alhaji Gaidam was only known to the people of Yobe state civil service, where he had risen to the position of a permanent secretary. But his tendency to steal public funds was manifest and known to all those who worked with him in that service. That was also the habit that earned him disdain of the two-time governor of the state, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, who did not consider him trustworthy for any public office.

Governor Gaidam became well-known in Yobe state when an investigation during the military era had him among what the people of Yobe state call '47 Wisemen', meaning 47 big thieves. During the tenure of Commissioner of Police Dabo Aliyu as military administrator in the 1990's, he and the rest of that infamous group were jailed for stealing.

While he was Deputy Governor, late Mamman Ali gave him Gaidem power to approve up to five million naira without recourse to him. But Ibrahim Gaidam proved incapable of running public funds without stealing them, as he embarked on false and fake expenditures that compelled Mamman Ali to withdraw the privilege.

However, upon being sworn-in as governor in January 2009, Ibrahim Gaidam legitimized corruption and embarked on massive looting of public funds. He started it all by demolishing his home in Damaturu - the house which was known to be his personal residence. It was originally a small-sized milk-painted bungalow with a black gate and was unnoticeably located metres away from a popular Sheikh Diyar mosque in Sabon Fegi. Investigations showed that the house used to have two units of two-bedroom flats for two of his wives, a chalet for children as well as a one-bedroom with a store, which served as the master chalet.

Since then, the governor has spent over 800 million on the mansion, into to which he is planning to relocate while in office, and claim rent from the government for its use.

He also has been buying expensive property in Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Abuja. In Abuja, he bought a house worth 500 million on Enyadema Street in Asokoro district. His personal house in Maiduguri was also demolished and nieghbours were paid off. Now, the modest house stands as one of the most expensive building in Maiduguri. He also tarred the road leading to his house in Maiduguri, even though many parts of Yobe state have been without access roads for over 40 years.

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has been stealing without remorse, knowing fully well that EFCC and ICPC are nothing but shadows for dealing with the political enemies of the government. EFCC has been ignoring all the petitions about the sleaze going on on Yobe state, bacause it is alleged that the thieving governor has "settled" the leadership of the EFCC.

Governor Gaidam has been perpetrating all these crimes against the poor people of Yobe state with the help of an assistant director in the federal civil serive, Alhaji Ibrahim Tumsah- who himself has been corruptly rich. Alhaji Ibrahim Tumsah is now the front being used by Governor Gaidam to continue stealing Yobe dry. Alhaji Ibrahim Tumsah is presently constructing a road inflated at 4 billion naira, even though he never had anything to do with construction.

While the people of Yobe state wallow in poverty Governor Gaidam taxed the 17 local governments of the state the sum of 20 million naira each as a gift to him for the lavish wedding of his daughter which took place late last year.

This is someone's contribution from where the info came out from:

Only those who dont know Ibrahim Gaidam will doubt any story about him.He was so poor and wretched before becoming deputy governor, to the extent that he sold his hotel Kingimi in Maiduguri: which was used as base for homosexual activities by Yobe politicians. But this man shows his gladness for the death of Mamman Ali by embarking of looting.Just after two weeks of coming to power, he started buying properties all over the place. The front man Alhaji Ibrahim Tumsah is just an assistant director in the federal civil service. This same man, Ibrahim Tumsah is now the main contractor for every sector in Yobe state.

Indeed, the governor must be very corrupt!.

In fact, something drastic must be done.

How drastic?

Enjoyment1:

This have gone beyond the issue of drastic. The northern governors have lost control of their states. The situation in Jos, is a typical example. All they are interested in is marrying as many as possible, and enriching their pockets.
