Edo State To Begin Fertilizer Production In June by itsdumebi(m): 12:12pm On Jun 02, 2017
Consequent to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State’s inspection of facilities and work progress on the Fertilizer Blending Plant in Auchi area of Etsako West Local Government of the state on Thursday, it has emerged that the plant will become functional before the end of June, this year.

The governor gave this assurance after receiving reports from Mr Ayodele Ejaoye, the General Manager of the Technical Company managing the fertiliser plant, who also said that the blending plant could produce about 55.000 metric tonnes of fertiliser per year.

He noted that with the progress of work and the facilities on ground, the plant could be test run by June 10, after which full production would begin, adding that the plant would employ about 120 direct and indirect workers when it became operational.

“I am quite impressed with the progress of work here because if you compared the situation now to what we met about two and half months ago when we came here first, you’d find that there is a significant difference,” the governor said.

Continuing, he revealed that: “We have been able to get the technical partners under the federal government fertiliser programme to start work here and they have made an investment to revamp the plant. The equipment has been tested and manufacturers were brought to fix the faulty parts. They are also constructing a new line to meet up with the specification of the federal government fertiliser programme.”

In addition, Governor Obaseki revealed that security had been beefed up in the location while office complexes had been fixed to ensure proper take-off of the facility.

Meanwhile, plans were in the works, it also emerged, with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), to draw a dedicated 33KVA line to the plant, a standby 500KVA generating set had been refurbished and more plans were being made with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to increase power supply to the blending plant and other mining facilities in the locality.

Ejaoye revealed that the plant intended to start commercial fertiliser production from June 20 this year and that it had a 7-ton/hour capacity.

The quantum of development taking place in Edo State at the same time is tremendous!!

Gelegele Seaport & Agro Industrial Park.
Ossiomo Industrial Park
AZura power plant!

Obaseki would make this state the greatest in Nigeria! It's already started! The amount of road reconstruction that is happening in just 6 months is a huge pointer to what is coming

What I like is the super intelligent approach to governance Obaseki is deploying! For instance, the idea of the fertilizer blending plant is to ensure that the right kind of fertilizer suited to the soil and produce type is blended for farmers. For instance, tuber crops require lots of Potassium and not much Nitrogen. But the only fertilizer found in the market in Nigeria is the one size fits all NPK 15:15:15 and so yields are poor. With the blending plant, expect to see increased yields!

You mean June 2017 or June 2018?
