Origin: Eod. That is it. If it was a case of individuals selling it, it wouldn't flood the market to the extent of being everywhere. |

This is how the north in executive and legislative are stealing Biafra and Niger delta oil revenues. Just as how minister of agriculture planning to divert food that isn't enough for staving Nigerians to other countries in the name of "exporting". Check the lists of taxpayers funds diverters/looters the topped all the lists. 3 Likes 1 Share

Suraj Tunji Oyewale : MANAGING CHARITY: BETWEEN NIGERIA & SAUDI Three times I had wanted to Facebook about this in the last 9 months (including 3 days ago), three times I had called it off, principally to avoid the risk of showing off what was meant to be a private spiritual journey. But a piece of news in Premium Times this morning has provided the fillip to chest out this. The news: 200 tonnes of date fruits donated by Saudi to Nigerian Muslims via the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs found its way into Nigerian markets (i.e some people cornered it and started selling it). Google "Nigerian government to investigate how Saudi date fruit found its way to Nigerian markets - Premium Times" for full story. Don't want to put link here to maximize exposure of this post. This confirmed my thought, which I actually said out to a couple of fellow Nigerian pilgrims around me, in my 2016 Saudi visit, that if these many free gifts we were being given here, were handled by Nigerians in Nigeria, 70 percent of them will never get to the target and end up in private pockets or some people diverting it to their warehouses/shops for commercial gain. In Saudi, in your 5 hour bus journey from Madina to Makkah, there are at least 2 points your bus will stop and all pilgrims are spoiled with free packed foods, drinks, and other gifts. It was so organised. These gift points are designed like filling stations - your bus just turns in offbthe highway, parks, bus coordinator tells the distributors number of pilgrims in his bus (up to 50 per bus), cartons of gifts dropped into the bus for distribution among pilgrims in transit, and the bus zooms away for the next one. And the buses transport at least 2 million pilgrims at peak (hajj) period. The gifts are rich, and never finish. I told the friend sitting beside me in our bus: if these were Nigeria, half of what's in this pack will not reach us. The people coordinating these activities would be millionaires by now. There are other charitable activities for pilgrims - well organized programme of free foods, drinks and other edibles (sponsored by government and some anonymous rich men) for their guests (pilgrims) on way from mosques (in Makkah in particular, but in Madina too) everyday in at least 3 of the 5 daily prayer times. I always say to myself, a charitable structure of this scale can never be this perfect in Nigeria. Diversion galore by the people in charge. My thought came to past when I read this news from PT today that a fruit gift from Saudi to Nigerian Muslims was diverted for commercial purpose by Nigerians when it reached Nigeria. Not surprised, if Nigerians could loot IDP relief materials, how much more gifts. PS: Date fruit (called dabinu) is a fruit that is grown majorly in the Middle East and highly recommended (but not compulsory) in Islamic tradition to use to break fast. Saudi sends tonnes of it to Nigeria (and other countries) for free disyribution to Muslims during Ramadan fast. Nigerian "consignment" diverted for commercial purpose to the dismay of the donor. See PT news. |

I am sure the thieves who diverted the goods will also claim to be fasting. You claim fasting is holy month yet diverting food given freely just because you want to make money. The country just keeps getting a terrible image everyday. Imagine the news going round the world. How do.you expect people not to see us as animals. That's why I still don't trust some of these Northern elders. These boko haram rubbish and IDP camp might just be an evil way for them to make more money. 1 Like |

sarrki:IDP camps, Boko Haram, Sharia Criminal Codes in far north - interconnected. Worse wickedness that brought all these is we understood that the differences in value systems that divide the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria can never be bridged, yet we force one Nigeria upon us and unwilling others. Truth: 1, Boko Haram couldn't have come up in Nigeria if the 12 northern states had not adopted Sharia criminal codes. 2; Boko Haram violence coupled with unfriendly environment of Sharia criminal laws in far north caused mass exodus of southern Nigerians once living in the north. 3; It's not possible to continue to have one Nigeria where people from the South cannot comfortably elect to settle in the north. |

Sagay212:This is another purpose the north created IDP via terrorist groups( boko haram and herdsmen). The northerners in charge of voting processes will send their fellow northerners as INEC officials to IDP camps for elections rigging to bring hardships to Nigerians. All these nonsense will stop when everyone return to their various regions and control their resources. 1 Like 1 Share

Agumbankembu: Unfortunately, you are right Besides you have no idea the nature and quantity of charity (gifts) that countries like Saudi Arabia donates to us but it hardly ever ever gets to the intended recipient. Long ago (around 1995) at Tudun wada area of Kaduna state, I witnessed the arrival of containers of clothes and shoes from Saudi Arabia meant as charity..., these days corruption doesn't allow such transparency again. 2 Likes |

Agumbankembu: That's the fundamental problem we have as a nation. The tendency to always take advantage of each other at the slightest opportunity, be time financially, spiritually, morally, intellectually, physically and beyond. Whether Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or any other. So it's a very peculiar situation but that's how we roll. It's deep rooted, unfortunate but that's nigeria for you. It's so basic to us like air is to human. 1 Like |

Agumbankembu:my brother let's not give this issue an ethnic or religious colouration. D gentleman is right. Nigerians thrive on d misfortune of others.sometime ago when d river Niger overflowed its banks, many people were made homeless even as far as delta state.d state govt under uduaghan released money and materials 4d upkeep of d affected people. On one of his visits 2a camp 4 these people, he discovered that materials and food meant 2 help these folks get their lives back had been misappropriated by those who were in charge of managing and distribution of d materials and food |
