Are there the aforementioned in rivers? Rivers is known for no respect for human lives. The entire Niger delta region has done more harm to their people similar to the north east with kidnapping and. environmental terrorism. Are the aforementioned also the ones running baby factories, fake drugs and also setting ethnic clashes in the east? Is Evans a Muslim? Is Henry okah Fulani? Is Tompolo and reverend King Hausa? Is alu located in the north east? True federalism is the antidote for moving this nation forward. But stop making your people feel too important.
You are right my brother. The problem with us (the youth) is that we allow our sentiment and racist mind to overshadow our judgements. In stead of speaking with one voice against all the so call Legislature and the Executives that are setting us against one another. They always brainwash us with their useless stories...

Shehu Sani lays out some of the primary problems plaguing Nigeria, and what do Nairalanders do in response? They rush to prove him right by spouting all sorts of insulting, tribalistic nonsense about "Hausas", "Muslims", "the North", etc! And these are the supposedly enlightened "youths" for whom room should be made in politics?

If nothing else, the rancid tribalism that has eaten away the brains of so many Nigerians is evidence in support of the notion that the country has no long term future as a single unit; nothing worthwhile can be achieved in a nation whose citizens hate and fear each other so much, even after decades of continuous contact. The only thing that really seems to be keeping this "nation" together is the shared interest of the elite in getting their own turn at "chopping" some of that oil revenue that hardly any Nigerians have had any part in extracting: taking 50% of the profits after Shell and BP have done the investing and engineering does not qualify as "hard work" or "enterprise", despite all the ridiculous posturing on here by moronic tribal champions.

The problem of Nigeria is in form of corruption, for almost all we Nigerians are wickedly corrupt, and the children of corruption are injustice, unrighteousness, absence of mercy, looting, selfishness, greediness, foolishness, blindness, godlessness, religious hypocrisy and the likes.

Obaiyski:
Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial district, Shehu Sani, has listed 10 factors he said were working against the unity and progress of Nigeria.

The lawmaker listed the factors as follows:

1.Dependence on one major source of revenue from a section of a country, which logically profiles and categorises other sections as parasitic.

2.Fading memory of the tragedy of secession and war: Lost lessons of history.

3.Manipulation of sectional, religious and ethnic sentiments and sensibilities of Nigerians by the political class.

4.The slow death of the nationalistic and patriotic spirit in the hearts and minds of Nigerians, evidenced with the perennial indifference to October 1st Independence Day celebrations.

5.A succession of failed governments, economic paralyses and widening gulf between the have and the have nots.

Federal government to supply 3 million prepaid meters to Nigerians – Fashola

6.The rise of a new restive and angry generation without value for, interest in or sense of history.

7.Retention of a national political and socio economic culture which emphasises on sharing of national cake as against the baking of national cake. A bogus federal structure of largesse.

8.Deliberate or negligent suffocation of institutions established to promote national unity e.g. NYSC, Federal Government Colleges, etc.

9.Narcissistic and forlorn ideas and fantasy of chauvinists and ethnic champions dreaming of carving out mini nations along tribal lines.

10.Inequities of a pyramid economic structure; a rich few over a poor many.

Meanwhile, Sani has advocated for an ad-hoc Committee that would address agitations of various groups in Nigeria.

http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/19/senator-shehu-sani-lists-10-factors-blocking-nigerias-progress-unity/

Sani carefully excludes the two major stumbling blocks to national unity:
(1) A skewed political structure created by soldiers from Sani's northern Nigeria; a structure that left 20 new states and hundreds of local govt areas in one northern region; but allowed only 17 states and fewer local govt areas in two southern regions. Historical relations, not land mass, is used as criterion to create new states, local govt areas, provinces or regions from old units. Sani's north draws undue political and economic advantages from the 20 northern states and use the political advantages of political over-representation to dictate what goes on in Nigeria.
That is, a self-confessed most educationally disadvantaged northern region now largely dictates who must preside over Nigeria in elections.

(2) The 1999 Constitution supervised by military dictators from northern Nigeria to legitimize the bogus political structure and flawed unitary governance system favoring only northern Nigeria; the 1999 constitution is not a constitution agreed upon by plebiscite.

What fuel these problems are religion and tribal nepotism. Except all Nigerians irrespective of where he or she comes from are treated and protected same. The fastest way to solve Nigeria problem is by round table discussion and agreement like the national confab intended.

Senator Sani did not find it destabilizing in the Nigerian political process that Nigeria's first Standard Gauge Rail lines costing $1.059 billion was built in arid northern Nigeria which contributes nothing to the federal purse, and which has the best road networks in Nigeria; but the people in the Nigerdelta still move with rickety boats and on pot-hole filled roads.

I hate to hear you Southern Youths say "FEDERAL GOVERNMENT" while in reality it is HAFU GOVERNMENT or HAUSA/FULANI Government.
C you henceforth needs to clarify this because this system of goververnance a UNITARY SYSTEM formulated by them in the NORTH via there Military Generals to surpress us all in the South.

But there is Solution. Bifrans and Niger Deltans Do Not Even Need Waste Resources On Any Confrontational Agitations or Ultimate War Against those Arrogant Cows.
You People Should just Follow What Lagos State Did and You Will Reset the Brains Of All "Kings And Lords In That Parasitic North and there HAFU Government Reps.

What Did Lagos State Do?
Read the below Post:
Salaam. Just got this post. It should be widely distributed to all Nigerians at home and abroad. FYI & na. Have a nice weekend.
"Restructuring Nigeria
I have often told those who care to listen to even define what they mean by restructuring and I can't seem to get answers. Or where we get, the answers are discordant and often tending toward federalism resource control and such.
What I understand it to mean is that we operate a truly federal system of government where every component part control their resources, have their domestic laws , have their own police, legal system , their own tax systems etc.
The states should be federating units donating some of their powers to the FG to hold and use in trust for them on matters of common interest such as defence, foreign affairs ,citizenship , immigration , currency and economy etc
Let us adopt the USA model. USA practices federalism.
Restructuring or federalism are totally different from the call for cannibalisation of the country.
Restructuring or federalism howsoever called is not the same as secession.
Suffice to say that when Lagos State Government took the federal government to the Supreme Court several times to insist on the practice of federalism from control of physical planning, local government administration that led to the withholding of Laos State revenue allocation, to issue of land abutting the waterways, control of inland waters, VAT, and many other issues , those states and zones where the call for restructuring are loudest today sadly all opposed the position of LASG at the Supreme Court on the alter of politics. We may go back and read those judgements for confirmation.
LASG won 12 of such cases and against the FG at the Supreme Court. That was the beginning of some elements of federalism and restructuring without calls to war or secession.
I recall that I had to lead speak on behalf of LASG in the company of Dr Akeem Olajide Bello , then an adviser to the governor on Legal matters at the Senate hearing on the National Inland waterways Authority Act and made a robust presentation for state control of Inland Waterways and total repeal of the Act on behalf of Lagos State .
A then top ranking and very outspoken and visible Senator from Enugu State was the most vociferous opponent of our position. He even said publicly at the hearing that Lagos State was being too cantekerous and asked insultingly if Lagos was the only coastal state or with waterways in the country that it was so canterkrous on the issue. This is a man whose state has rivers that could be of economic benefits to his state and people .
I educated him before his colleagues and the public in fine and polite language that he was not fit to be a Senator .
I also recall telling him that if he and his state dont t know the rights of his people and state, we in Lagos did and would assert same using the law.
I asked him if he was proud that by the National inland Waterways Authority Law his people in Enugu state will need to travel to lokoja to obtain licences to own and operate fishing canoes on the rivers and streams in the state
I felt he was very disappointing and was betraying his people.
The senator sought to be Governor and is today one of the major voices and sponsors of secession and restructuring mixed up.
Lagos State House of assembly subsequently repealed the National Inland Waterways Authority Act and promulgated the Lagos State Inland Waterways Authority Act and took control of the Lagos Lagoon and its intra state waters.
There were objections and protests from such bodies as Nigerian Ports Authority and NIWA .
Lagos called their bluff and challenged them to go to court.
Lagos used rhe intrumentality of the law, legislature and intellect to take its destiny in its hands and assert it's rights.
It was the series of litigation by LASG that has now effectively handed physically planning and land ownership back to the states.
Before then, the FG was giving planning permits for buildings in place

The Problem of Nigeria Primarily Stems From Hatred Hausa People Have Against Southern Nigerians. They never want to Be Ruled but instead Want to Forced Rule others. Like there religion, No Tolerance let alone Equity!
Just like Muhammed who was trained by the contefeit Christian Order known today as Catholic Church , Northerners are favoured by the British because they do not challenge there so called authority or master knowledge like we all did in the south.

Any where around the world, Population is high in Coastal areas while Desert areas are densely Populated but here in Nigeria, the Population Census result always says otherwise. Just Imagine that!!

Northers having been trained by those useless Europeans always prefer to use number to determine resource and allocation control. Thereby meaning that Southerners will keep Working without Eating from there Labour while the up there takes all the Glory and Proceeds.

Just imagine that fellow Southerners.

Forget about Ameachi or Fayose or Ibori being bad guys for now. Let figth for controlling our resources and see our things will change fast fast.

One South!!

The North has always hated us before the civil war.

The premier was simply doing what was done in other regions.

He said.. if you go to the east or west .. how many northerners will you find employed there.

So you want them to give you IPOB work in the ministries when their sons and daughters are jobless.

He stated facts from the very first sentence.

Malam Shehu Sani missed the point which is the need for Nigeria to return to true federalism.

The Nigerian military brought in a unitary or centralised government during the regime of Major General Aguiyi Ironsi.

That administwration cancelled the post-independence government Nigeria had at independence where all the existing 3 regions where equal by their own right and they exploit their agricultural resources in their own region and pay taxes to the federal government.

I do not think Chief Obafemi Awolowo as intelligent as that papa is will go and negotiate a future for his yoruba people that will put them in perpterual bondage by another tribe. Chief Awolowo wanted the best of his yoruba people and he went to London during the post independence conference to negotiate a better future for his yoruba people. The same thing applies to Sarduana and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe both of them went to London to negotiate better bargains for the Northern region and the Eastern Regions respectively.

It is rather sad that presence day leaders particularly most of our northern leaders who do not know the pain our post independence leaders passed through to secure our future and get us a robust constitution. We are supposed to build on those constitution even if it lead to break up of the country. There are some country that break away peacefully like former Czechsolovakia ( now Czech republic and Slovakia republic )
Ethiopia break peacefully into two countries ( Ethiopia and Eritrea )

Why must Nigeria own be different. In Nigeria, the Northern states and Southern states do not share the same religion and culture they are muslims while southern Nigeria is predominately christian. Why are we forced to become one country when we do not have the same belief.

The best way forward for Nigeria is return to the 2014 National Conference report and then start the restructuring process of the country.

I think Nigeria should be considering a referendum as a long term peaceful prospect so that we all can part ways and go our own separate way.

There is no future in a marriage that do not have no love lost.

All these ones join but mostly, failure to practice true federalism and control of individual resources. It would go a long way to fast track our development.

Who then like can use his IGR to import grass from the moon to feed cows or fly pilgrims to mecca or give everything to militants. That time, it won't concern anybody.

Overall, we just need to amend our archaic constitution.

I can tell you have not given any thought to what you have typed yourself.

You have not analysed what federalism means neither have you considered how synergy and resource control works.

People have just been using this federal character as yardstick and are all in a bangarang trying to put the cart before the horse.

The main flaw in Nigeria is the societal decay , lack of equity and justice and moral character. Because the leaders are selected from a society with low ethical standards their actions in governing the masses is reflected in where they come from , who they represent and what is expected not them (where a senator is expected to pay the medical bills, school fees, personal expenses and distribute largesse to his constituents it's inevitable that is the key he'll seek for re-election)

A reform of the electoral process and the Constitution of the Nigerian republic is a good place to start

The confab was a good with some noble ideas within which are already being passed , the devaluation of power from federal to local governments would be great too so people can seek their LGA chairman and councillors for immediate issues concerning governance

Yes, that too.

But this one you're saying now shows you are in agreement with me rather than in disagreement.

I just know overall, that we don't get honest, fair and quality representation from the three forms of government at the federal level.

If the resources where going from bottom to the top, they will stop wasting so much of their resources on frivolity at the federal level.

But as it is, coming from top to bottom (FG to LG), and it get stuck like it always do, LG has no resources to grow and develop hence the masses always lack.

Moral decadence, lack of fairness and equity are just manifestations of a dysfunctional system.

Go check when America started practicing true federalism as we know it today and its correlation with their growth and development. Immense.

Senator Sanni tried in his analysis but the major problem facing Nigeria is failed leadership that pretended and still pretends that all is well with our poor contraption tagged federalism.

Once the so called 'sacred issues' are allowed to be tabled and addressed in an open and fair minded manner, things will begin to work in Nigeria.
