Nigeria’s Nobel Prize-winning writer Wole Soyinka thinks the country’s battle with secession has not ended, but the methods have changed.

Today, most Nigerians know better. Biafra has not been defeated. If anyone was left in any doubt about this, the last work of my late colleague, Chinua Achebe's There Was A Country, has left us re-thinking. New generation writers, born long after that brutal war, have inherited and continue to propagate the Biafran doctrine, an article of faith among the Igbo populace, even among those who pay lip-service to a united nation. Millions remain sworn to uphold it. Many have died at the hands of the police and the military as succeeding guardians of that legacy troop out to reclaim it in defiant manifestations. Amnesty International estimated that at least 150 pro-Biafra activists have been killed since August 2015. Some of their leaders, including the director of their official mouthpiece, Radio Biafra, remain on trial for alleged subversion and treason. Others have gone underground.

Division is the surest way out of the present mess.

There's no guarantee restructuring will succeed nor work cos those 'hegemons' up north won't allow a fair / just country for all.

Had the three Rs [Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Reconciliation] been faithfully implemented after the war. There would have been little or no need for any agitation now

Some comments from the so called fellow Nigerians confirm the fact that Nigeria urgently needs to be divided. Let the different ethnic groups go their separate ways.

-Ofcos. Take a trip to Biafraland and see military check-points for yourself, among other things too numerous to mention.
-But the restoration of Biafra is no longer "if" but "when".

The war could have ended in 1970, but the Fulani army boys wouldn't accept to allow Igbos become normal citizens.
instead since 1970, they increasingly changed the laws of Nigeria just to punish the people they still considered enemies. This culminated in the 199 constitution which they wrote to clearly make themselves Lords of all the resources and powers of life and death in Nigeria....and all they had to do to control and wield all that power was to focus on controlling the Federal government.

Of course the new generation have watched this brazen display of enslavement go unchallenged for far too long. The new generation is now prepared to fight for their freedom. it will take whatever it will take and will cost everyone, whatever it will cost.

I find HausaFulani to be very intolerant.

I find Yoruba to be very tribalistic.

I find Igbos to be goal getters, they are always pursuing an interest.

The three of them have no business being in the same country.

Mr man, do your research, there is no country in the world that has ever fought two civil war and is still together. I am not Igbo but one thing is for sure, if Nigeria fights another civil war, she will definitely be divided.

I am not Igbo but please, have some respect for the dead, what do you mean by "useless Igbos". You sound very very childish. How useful do you think you are, it seem you are feeling proud over nothing, there are hundreds of prominent and popular people all over the world and you are not one of them, nobody knows you, even in Nigeria, so I advise you to keep quiet and think twice before you call someone useless. You are just another black man in Africa, not better than the people you refer to as useless.

Meaningless comment like yours makes no difference in the face of prof. Soyinka's submission. I wish threats like the one handed down by the US president (Donald Trump) to North Korea would have halted their military expansionist ambition. But the reverse was the case because, words like yours, does not deter a people convinced about what they want; but rather emboldens them: (whether they go about it the right or wrong way). Diplomacy is the only antidote to situational crisis like these and failure to employ conflict resolution techniques would ultimately spell doom. Ask Britain, and France if their threat to declare war on Germany if she attacks Poland deterred Hitler from going ahead with invading it not minding the number of Germans who perished in WW1!
