The Nigerian senate has raised alarm over smuggling activities allegedly being managed and run by some high ranking officials of the Nigerian customs.

At a public hearing on Monday, Chairman, Senate Committee on Customs and Excise duties, Senator Hope Uzodinma revealed that several stumbling blocks have prevented attempts to stop smuggling in the past, adding that the 8th senate was dedicated to ending the problem.

He disclosed that senators will not feign ignorance over the issue of smuggling, stating that no legislative arm of government will sit still while smugglers have a field day with their activities.

“We are finding lasting solutions to the horrific threat that smuggling poses to the nation. No legislative arm of government will sit while smugglers are allowed to ravage the economy and deny the government huge sums of money”.

Supporting Uzodinma's statements, another committee member, Senator Dino Melaye said that there was a 'satanic' collaboration between customs officials and smugglers. He revealed that the customs officials were profiting from the illegal relationship.

Member of the Committee, Senator Dino Melaye said, there was a satanic collaboration between smugglers and Customs officials, adding that such officials were profiting from it.

“It is obvious to all of us, that there is ‘satanic collabo’ with some dissidents within the Customs and that is the reason smugglers are having a field day. These smugglers are not celestial beings, even the Customs officials know their warehouses in Kano, Kaduna, Seme and other places,”

Laughing at them as they dont know how deep smuggling activities are in Nigeria, not even with our numerous porous borders.
