The Governors Forum in their meeting last night, among other major decisions, demanded for the inauguration of Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President with immediate effect.
The governors who sat for about seven hours at the Kwara State Lodge in Abuja also demanded that the procedure for appointing Vice President Jonathan as Acting President could either be verbal or written.

While appreciating the position of the 1999 Constitution in relation to the office of the President and that of his deputy, the Forum urged Nigerians to give Acting President Jonathan all the support he needs to succeed until President Yar’Adua returns in good health.

The governors also said that they would convene a meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly to pass a resolution empowering Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President.
On the Jos crisis, the governors resolved to send relief materials to the victims of the last mayhem in the Plateau State capital, insisting that that the Jos problem is a political problem, not religious.
The Forum also urged all state governors to put in place a machinery to enforce rule of law, so as to avoid a repeat of the Jos crisis in their home states.

It will be recalled that the decision of last night’s meeting in Abuja was a follow up to the position of the Northern governors meeting in Kaduna yesterday.
Some of the states that were either represented by the governor or the deputy at the meeting are: Kwara, Kebi, Benue, Adamawa, Rivers, Ebonyi, Delta, Ekiti, Nasarawa, Cross River, Sokoto, Abia, Katsina, Niger, Borno, Edo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Gombe, Oyo, Jigawa, Kogi, Kano, Lagos, Taraba, Osun and Ondo.

I knew that Yar'adua's days are over when OBJ spoke. He still has access to intelligence reports in this country and when he speaks you got to know that it means a lot.

I think that is the English that most dont seems to understand, no one is saying Yaradua cant be the president, but while he is taking care of his health, he can let someone else hold the office on his behalf, they can even refer to him as the Acting President.

So so talk talk, no action

The Sun reporter must have gotten confused with the English spoken at the meeting. How else did he come about such a different report on this same meeting?

@mikeansy. You are correct. Look at Madam rebranding's memo to FEC and the Governor's meeting, all this are signs that all is not well with Yar-adua. Dora is smart we all think she did it for Nigeria,  No way!!!!!!!. Cause she would have been afriad of being sack, She presented that memo so as to be in the good book of GoodLuck and this governors are doing same because of thier second term. Lets watch out!!! by next week other ministers  will shift camps  even Aondoakaa will be singing , Goodluck! , Goodluk!!!, Goodluck.

They can never have the meeting in Kaduna because the north doesnt control the country. The South and middle belt have control of what goes on. The northerners are just dumb period.

The difference between Dora's memo and what this Governors are doing is that these Governors have nothing to add or remove from this debate. As far as this debate goes they only are entitled to opinions like the eminent Nigerians or Save Nigeria Group.

They have no constitutional power whatsoever to make Jonathan acting President or Full President.

However Dora is part of the FEC who are empowered to sound a dearth nail on Yar'adua's presidential coffin. What she says carries weight because if more FEC memebers share the same view. They will under section 144 of the constitution bring this whole drama to an end quickly.

These Governors in my view have no business living their duty post. THEY ARE SIMPLY GRANDSTANDING. THIS IS AKIN TO GOVERNORS WHO HAD NO VOTE IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TELLING US THEY DEFEATED PRESIDENT OBJ'S 3RD TERM AGENDA. THEY SHOULD GO AND SIT DOWN. GOVERNORS FORUM IS NOTHING BUT A FORUM. THEY HAVE NO ROLE WHATSOEVER UNDER THE CONSTITUTION AS GOVERNORS FORUM AND THEIR JURISDICTION ENDS IN THEIR INDIVIDUAL STATE. THEY SHOULD DO US THE FAVOUR OF PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THE AFFAIRS OF THEIR LOCAL STATES THAN ALL THIS NOISE.

There is no need maligning members of the FEC because Jonathan does not control real power yet. He still needs those who can be loyal to him in FEC to play the intricate politics involved. But the Governors have no constitutional role on this issue.

Besides, Jonathan himself was singing a different tune too. Jonathan has not even changed tune as we speak. He still says he prefers to be loyal to his boss who he claims will come back soon. So members of FEC had as much reason as Jonathan to be sceptical of the situation.

Jonathan is a career looter. Yar'Adua has a failed career.

Either way, Nigeria is screwed.
